Protection Team Leader Ukraine Odessa

1.Role and responsibilities
The Protection Team Leader (TL) will be responsible for supporting team and project management withprotection mainstreaming within the NRC Ukraine South Area Office in line with NRC’s Protection Policy andglobal protection standards. The Protection TL will work with protection coordinator to develop protectionmainstreaming tools and guidance to ensure protection is integrated within programme cycle managementand will support staff and contractor capacity building through trainings and awareness raising sessions onminimum protection standards. The Protection TL will identify gaps in terms of field-based protection supportand line manage any additional field-based protection staff. The TL will develop strong working relationshipsat Odesa and field levels with protection actors and provide regular context analysis updates on keyprotection trends.
Generic responsibilities (max 10)
These responsibilities shall be the same for all positions with the same title. The responsibilities shall be short and essential. Details belong in the Work- and Professional Development Plan.
1.Ensure compliance with NRC (global and national) policies and procedures, handbooks and guidelinesand/or propose new initiatives to bridge gaps and implement these.
2.Contribute to developing systems and SOP’s and makes sure they are implemented accordingly.
3.Identify, analyse and evaluate key processes and gaps in the team activities and makerecommendations for improvement.
4.Liaison and collaborate with relevant local authorities and/or stakeholders.
Specific responsibilities
Support the implementation of NRC’s Protection Policy and global protection standards within Country Office through working with protection coordinator and manager.
Implementation of the project activities in coordination with the Protection Manager.
Develop protection tools and guidance and continually update protection action plans to ensureintegrated and safe programming.
Support the training, capacity building and mentoring of field staff and awareness raising of non-staff(contractors and incentive labour) on minimum protection standards
Identify gaps in terms of field-based protection support and line manage any additional field-basedprotection staff to ensure support to programme management on specific programme initiatives andstaff mentoring.
Convene regular meetings of Programme (Protection) Referral focal points to ensure quality inprotection referrals in line with NRC internal SOPs.
Develop strong working relationships at the Country Office level, Area South level and field level withexternal protection actors and referral partners. Represent NRC at the field level in protectioncoordination meetings
Produce regular context analysis updates on key protection trends and contribute to programmedevelopment discussions.
2. Competencies

Experience for working as Protection Officer in a humanitarian/recovery context
Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
Documented results related to the position's responsibilities
Experience working in coordination and liaising with external actors
Experience developing and delivering protection training and good presentation skills in Ukrainian/Russian/English
Ability to multi-task and work with short deadlines
Ability to work independently and proactively with limited daily support and supervision
Context related skills, knowledge and experience (shall be adapted to the specific position):
Knowledge of the Ukraine context and broader crisis
Knowledge of global protection standards and relevant bodies of international law
