Video Journalist, Ukraine

Reuters is looking for an energetic visual journalist to join our highly successful team in Ukraine, based in Kyiv/Kharkiv. The winning candidate will have experience in video newsgathering and production and have a keen knowledge of camera equipment, including new technologies.

The candidate needs to be a team player, a self-starter and have an ability to produce creative ideas to keep our storytelling fresh. You will work closely, across all services in the Kyiv bureau, to produce high quality multimedia stories in a fast-moving business for our client database of more than 1,000 broadcasters and hundreds of digital outlets around the world.

About the role
As a Visual Journalist, Ukraine you will:

• React quickly to breaking news
• Learn and follow guidelines of breaking news drill to deliver timely and thorough cover
• Identify interesting angles in the news stories you cover, flag related feature and personal stories to deliver broad and wide-ranging cover to broadcast and online clients from a diversity of viewpoints, experiences and perspectives.
• Work closely with photo colleagues to improve skills and, when requested, deliver stills cover
• Familiarize yourself with and deploy various delivery methods, latest technology for live and edited cover
• Produce fast and comprehensive edits of your own cover as well as additional elements provided by your colleagues or handout material
• Contribute to the production of multi-media stories by working closely with text colleagues
• Working under the direction of senior colleagues ensure your work meets editorial needs and is in line with Reuters principles of accuracy, independence, and freedom from bias
• Provide complete and accurate information needed to produce high quality shotlists and scripts
• Be able to use diverse means of producing video content including drones

You will report to the Senior Video Journalist, Ukraine with dotted line to Chief Visuals Producer, Ukraine.

About you
To be considered for the role of Visual Journalist, Ukraine you will have:

• Excellent video camera operating skills
• Good editing skills
• Sound news judgement and a passion to deliver stories to our clients
• Eagerness to participate in planning and organisation of news stories
• Creativity – that special touch that can make our story telling stand out
• Be calm under pressure and enthusiastic
• Strong team player, able to collaborate with text and photos across multiple offices
• Fluent Ukrainian is a must, knowledge of Russian or any other European language is a bonus
