This role is open for applications from employees who are currently located and have the right to work in Vietnam. The successful candidate will remain in their current location/entity

You must have the legal right to work in Vietnam at the time of application as there is no relocation or sponsorship support.

British Council supports working in new ways such as hybrid working, subject to full approval by line management and conditional upon our ability to provide the appropriate level of service. This may not be appropriate for all roles but can be explored at interview.

Role purpose

The Wellbeing Manager plays a pivotal role in promoting and enhancing the physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing of employees within the British Council.

They will also:

  • Ensure that wellbeing services and resources are maintained and delivered effectively to maximise support for managers and staff.
  • Manage our external suppliers for health and wellbeing services, including payments and contract management, analysis of management information and ensuring that the services are fully utilised.
  • Review and update existing wellbeing materials and resources, and helping to create new ones.
  • Manage networks (including MHFA and TRi M) and events, supporting new initiatives, and responding to enquiries.
  • Have a deep understanding of employee wellbeing, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to collaborate with various stakeholders to create a culture of wellness across the British Council.

Role context

Wellbeing has been identified by the British Council’s senior leadership as a key priority for the organisation. Wellbeing support is central to the employee experience and influences issues such as recruitment, retention, engagement and productivity.
The role works closely with other roles in HR Centres of Expertise, People Business Partners, and colleagues in People Services and Solutions hubs. Other stakeholders include Country Directors and business leaders.

  • As a member of the People Experience and Insight pillar, the role supports the business to:
  • Make decisions and develop interventions to enhance the employee experience.
  • Improve effectiveness based on evidence from external best practice, internal expertise, feedback from staff.

Main accountabilities include but not limited to:

Communicating and influencing
  • Develops good working relationships with colleagues throughout the British Council and within Global People function to know who to engage with to enable effective implementation of procedural changes and improvements.
  • Shares intelligence and ideas to support senior managers in identifying/ developing new ways in which the functional specialism could positively impact upon the British Council’s operational efficiency and effectiveness.

Planning and organising
  • Plans and prioritises own work activities to ensure effective delivery of diverse responsibilities and internal customer deliverables over a monthly to quarterly time horizon.
  • Create and manage a calendar of wellbeing activities, events, and campaigns, including the organisation of workshops and training sessions to raise awareness of mental health issues and reduce stigma.
  • Support the direction and medium-term plan for wellbeing globally, to address organisational needs as they change over time.
  • Contribute to business cases to recommend resourcing for new initiatives and changes to policy or practice.
  • Support the management of global wellbeing policies.

Analysing data and problems
  • Assess wellbeing initiatives drawing on relevant data and insight.
  • Provides proactive advice and support to internal customers to ensure local or unit-specific business practices within their area of functional expertise are informed, high quality, effective and compliant with relevant corporate policies.
  • Uses a variety of information resources and professional networks to maintain up-to-date knowledge of developments in external policy, practice and regulation within their professional discipline.

Managing risk
  • Effectively and proactively manages external suppliers/providers to ensure high quality service provision.
  • Identify opportunities for procedural improvements within policies and the most appropriate mechanisms and processes for implementing those changes.
  • Awareness of relevant governance arrangements that relate to making system or procedural changes.

Language Requirements

The British Council systems and global processes operate in English. Written and verbal proficiency in English is required
