ABOUT US
The Salvation Army is a Christian movement and one of Australia's largest and most-loved charities. We believe in doing good that transforms lives and futures for the better. It is this belief which drives us to find new ways and places where we can make a difference. From times of personal crisis to moments of national grief, we are always here — providing support, safety, community, and opportunity.
The Salvation Army Employment Plus is a company that welcomes, encourages and supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People. We are registered with Reconciliation Australia and have an active Reconciliation Action Plan. We have an embedded Cultural Competency and Capability Framework. We are committed to a culturally welcoming and safe working environment for our First Nations staff. We offer additional support for our First Nations staff by providing connection to our Burra Burra Support network and virtual yarning circles.

About the role:
In this role, you will provide ongoing support to Region / Site Managers and front-line staff to drive outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Participants. A key focus of this role is the provision of strong engagement and post placement support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander jobseekers and employers to facilitate retention and sustained employment outcomes.
  • Provide quality engagement with local Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community, services and organisations as well as supporting staff in engaging with local communities in their region
  • Working collaboratively with all regional staff to embed approved RAP initiatives into Employment Plus
  • Provide specialist advice and leadership to regional staff regarding Indigenous Placements, Outcome, and Post Placement Support
  • Assist Front line operational staff to connect non-job ready participants with relevant local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander services and support
  • Identify, build, and maintain regional connections between EPlus programs and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations and services
  • Provide culturally appropriate training and mentoring for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participants
  • Source quality employment opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participants
  • Deliver quality pre- and post-placement support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participants across all programs, working with EPlus staff to identify and address potential barriers to employment

About you:
  • You are an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person who can build engagement and connection through lived experience as an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and agencies
  • Demonstrated understanding of the history and challenges impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
  • Experience in employment services, recruitment or a similar vocation, particularly in the specialist areas relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
  • Advanced relationship building and influencing skills with internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral
  • Able to work in a multi team environment
  • Applicants must be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent through parentage, identification as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and accepted in the community as such
  • A current valid driver’s licence is essential for this position

TSA considers Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander decent as a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.
Under s14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 we do not need to apply for an exemption from the Board, as we’ve got reasonable justification for why the services would be best provided by a First Nation’s person.

What we offer:
  • Attractive remuneration & NFP salary packaging benefits ($15,900 tax-free + meal & entertainment benefits)
  • Great work-life balance with an opportunity for a 9-day fortnight or an accrued day off every 4 weeks
  • Discounted fitness memberships, health insurance, retail discounts and more
  • Attractive leave benefits with access to purchase leave, 12 weeks paid Parental Leave and up to 5 days paid leave per year to support the Salvos
  • EAP & wellbeing initiatives, fostering a supportive and inclusive approach to your overall wellbeing
  • Long-term employment opportunities within the EPlus & wider Salvos networks
  • Comprehensive and supportive on the job training
  • Tool of trade vehicle

A current Working with Children Check or relevant state equivalent is a mandatory requirement for our positions. Successful applicants will also be required to undertake a police check - it is not mandatory to have a clear criminal history.
