Job Description
We are currently seeking a dedicated individual to join our team as a Casual Track Hand. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys working outdoors, has a keen interest in track maintenance, and is eager to contribute to the smooth operation of our facilities.Some of the job responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Attend operational and capital works meetings with Curator Manager
- Liaise with Stewards and/or Trackwork Supervisor regarding operational issues or arising incidents and/or investigations
- Training and/or induction of new staff/contractors as required
- Use water tankers tractors, stealth mower and sweeper to maintain grass track
- Use tractor, harrows, roller and power rake to maintain sand tracks daily
- Remove and reinstate flexi-pegs / running rail on tracks as required
- Sweep and hose out horse stalls daily
- Clean public facilities and areas as required
- Empty bins and remove litter from grounds routinely
- Use spray equipment to apply pesticides and weed control chemicals as required
- Clean and maintain all machinery in good condition and general training infrastructure (i.e., pool, swab box, sand roll etc, as directed)
- Secure and unlock maintenance compounds and gates to complexes as required
- Participate in industry training and professional development where relevant to the position
Qualifications
About You:- Experienced in operating water tankers, tractors and associated track maintenance equipment
- Experienced in use of hand mowers, ride-on mowers and whipper-snippers
- Ability to work effectively under minimal supervision both autonomously and as part of a team
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with industry stakeholders and general public including situations of potential conflict
- Ability to prioritise tasks in order to complete duties in a timely and efficient manner, whilst still achieving acceptable standards of quality in work completed
- Demonstrated understanding of the occupational safety and health requirements and practices, related to this position
- Possession of a current ‘C’ class driver’s licence
- Ability to complete basic reports or documentation
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of the racing industry
- Availability to respond to after-hours maintenance requirements and/or critical issues as required
- Availability to work weekends and public holiday as required.
