ABOUT THE POSITION:

The purpose of this position is to lead the development and implementation of digital preservation standards, workflows, and industry-standard processes and associated needs for Museums Victoria.
Some of the key duties include:

• Working with relevant disciplines, lead the development of workflows across existing and emerging formats for the digital preservation of the Museum's digital collections (both digitised and born-digital).
• Confirm metadata requirements by format at each stage of the Museum's digital preservation workflows and confirm the preservation of information packages throughout the digital preservation lifecycle.
• Analyse metadata using OAIS or other international standards to ensure metadata and information packages are preserved with the digital asset throughout the digital preservation process.
• Identify and establish the hardware, software needs and associated ingestion and quality assessment processes for the Museum's forensic data workstation.
• Provide specialist digital preservation advice and information to internal stakeholders and assist in their learning and skill development related to digital preservation.

The successful applicant will have:

• Specialist knowledge of and considerable experience in applying contemporary digital preservation frameworks and practices in major collecting and cultural institutions.
• Specialist knowledge and considerable experience in applying metadata schemas and workflows for traditional and/or complex digital formats across the full digital asset lifecycle, and in the use Digital Preservation and/or Digital Asset Management systems.
• Experience in establishing the technical requirements and workflows/processes for a forensic data workstation for digital ingestion.
• Experience working collaboratively with cross-disciplinary teams in a technology-driven environment where there is constant change, requirements for adaptation and new workflows and delivery to described standards.
• Experience in interpretation and preparation of technical documentation.

OTHER INFORMATION
This is a full time, fixed term (24 months). The salary on offer is $92,332 pro rata (base of grade) + 11.5% superannuation.
