Why this role matters
The Salvation Army (Salvos) provides a wide range of services that support women and women with children impacted by family and domestic violence. Our services focus on prevention, restoration and healing to provide specialised support to address immediate safety issues and provide advice, referrals, and connection to assist the recovery journey.
Mc Combe House in Southern Tasmania provides supported emergency accommodation for single women and women with children escaping domestic violence and homelessness. Mc Combe House is a 6 – 8 week safe and secure crisis accommodation for women and children from all cultures and backgrounds.

About the role
We are seeking a values-driven and proactive Family Violence Children's Specialist to coordinate a high quality, integrated assessment and response program for children and young people within the The Salvation Army's Family Violence Services (FVS).
Reporting to the Family Violence Services Manager, this is a max-term (until 2026), part-time (30.4 hours per week) position based in Hobart, Tasmania. Salary and conditions are in accordance with SCHADS Award Level 5.

You will successfully
  • Coordinate the delivery of specialist high quality child focused interventions and group work to infants, children and their mothers
  • Provide specialist child-focussed education and authoritative direction to staff to ensure child focussed practice is performed to meet the needs of infants, children and their mothers accessing FVS programs.
  • Provide specialist support to children 0-18 and mothers who have experienced family violence
  • Ensure that FVS addresses the unique risks posed by FV to children
  • Ensure that FVS seeks to enhance child well-being.
  • Work collaboratively with team members and external service providers to provide an integrated continuum of support to children.

You will have
  • Degree qualification in social work, welfare (social sciences), community development or related field.
  • Registration to work with vulnerable people.
  • Be a member and registered with a relevant accredited peak body (AASW, APS, ACA etc).
  • Experience in service delivery with children and families who have experienced trauma.
  • A strong history of working with children and families from diverse backgrounds and with a complex range of support needs.
