We are seeking a skilled and enthusiastic full-time Chef or Cook to join our dynamic team and lead our teppan kitchen. You will be responsible for delivering high-quality dishes with precision, flair, and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities:
*Prepare and cook our okonomiyaki, in addition to a variety of meats, seafood, vegetables, and other dishes on our teppan grill.
*Ensure the food presentation meets the restaurant’s high standards for quality and authenticity.
*Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the grill station and kitchen areas and ensure correct food handling and storage.
*Follow correct food safety and hygiene standards at all times.
*Manage and control stock, ensuring minimal waste and efficiency in food preparation.
*Collaborate with the kitchen team and FOH staff to coordinate timely service to customers in the correct sequence.
*Train and mentor new staff to ensure team protocols are followed.
*Support the Head Chef with seasonal menu creation ensuring we remain on brand whilst managing food costs
*Assist with administrative elements of the department including but not limited to rostering, stocktaking, ordering and end of month reporting
Requirements:
*At least 2-3 years full-time experience as a cook or chef in a Japanese restaurant
*Strong knowledge of Japanese cuisine
*Experience cooking on a teppan grill is essential
*Japanese language ability will be highly regarded
*FSS (or willingness to obtain) will be highly regarded
*Excellent knife skills and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
*High standards of cleanliness and food safety
*Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends (public holidays not typically required)
