South West Evangelical Church

Lead Pastor

FULL TIME

October 27, 2024

South-West Evangelical Church (SWEC) is seeking whom God has prepared for this important leadership role for the staff team, leadership teams, and volunteers across our two congregations (English and Mandarin). Under God, SWEC prayerfully aims to continue to be a church that makes, matures, mobilises, and multiplies disciples of Jesus in our neighbouring suburbs, especially among the many ethnically diverse communities in these areas.
The south and inner south-west of Sydney, with key suburbs such as Beverly Hills, Campsie, Hurstville, and Earlwood, have a growing population of over 130,000. Furthermore, they represent some of the most ethnically diverse suburbs in the whole of Sydney, with over 60% of families having both parents born overseas. In our local area, non-Anglo Australians are the majority, in particular Chinese, Lebanese, Greek, and Nepalese communities.
The successful candidate will lead the church in pursuing the SWEC’s vision and values, as well as have the requisite character, conviction, and competencies to lead the church.
About the successful candidate:
  • A genuine love for God, His church, and those who are lost without Christ.
  • Someone who is humble and dependent on God, expressed in prayerfulness and a deep private worship and devotional life.
  • A mature Christian with demonstrated personal and professional commitment to see the gospel grow in reach and depth.
  • A “people person” who loves to develop deep relationships with those in the church.
  • A commitment to the Protestant, Reformed and Evangelical faith, upholding both to the values of SWEC, as well as the FIEC.
  • A degree qualification (Bachelors or above) in a recognised evangelical Bible college or seminary.
  • Minimum of 7 years in full-time Christian ministry and experience in pastoral ministry in the context of a local church. Experience in cross-cultural ministry is highly desirable.
  • Ability to cast vision, lead, recruit, equip, disciple and empower leaders at SWEC.
  • Proven experience in leading a staff team or teams of high level lay leaders is highly desirable.
  • A willingness to work with the elders in a collaborative manner, so as to work towards a common vision and direction.
  • An ability and commitment to care pastorally for the staff team and eldership team.
  • Demonstrated ability to start, grow, and sustain ministries from scratch, as well as envision, recruit, empower, train, and delegate leaders in the process.
  • Ability to relate well to others, being a compassionate and caring listener with proven people skills in the context of a ministry team.
  • Proven skill and passion for expositional Bible preaching, delivered in an engaging and practically applicable way. High level written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good organisational and administrative skills and the ability to work collaboratively.
SWEC offers:
  • a dedicated and capable eldership (5) and pastoral team (2)
  • established ministries as well as a multitude of new ministry opportunities
  • a competitive salary package with study leave (in addition to all other statutory leave)
If you believe that you meet the requirements to be the next Lead Pastor of SWEC, then we invite you to make an application or express your interest.
