At Unilever ANZ, we have also embarked on something special: we are proud to be undertaking a 4 Day work week trial. This trial will see our staff retain 100 percent of their salaries, while working 80 percent of the time and delivering 100 percent of business outcomes. The Process Engineer (North Rocks) role is designed to be fully functional in the 4-Day work week trial.

Job Summary

The Process Engineer role is critical to the development of our factories to World Class, which means zero defects, zero waste and zero losses. She/he will apply extensively the full range of Focussed and Quality Improvement methods and tools to counter losses identified in the areas of Safety, Quality, Cost Deployment, Customer Service and Logistics. The Cost Deployment pillar will be populated with data built up through application of the Managing Manufacturing Performance Code, which is key to ensuring focus on key losses.

Working directly with the line crews on a daily basis the Process Engineer also acts as the technical trainer for line teams and provides coaching in phenomena identification, root cause analysis and the establishment of countermeasures.

The Process Engineer is responsible for the validation of all process improvements and the establishment of revised basic conditions on the line. A core deliverable is eliminating losses and wastes and increase the stability of the line to support the transition of traditional line teams to semi-autonomous teams.

  • Building world class factories will eliminate losses and ensure that we do not pass on the cost of inefficiencies to our customers and consumers.

WORLD CLASS MANUFACTURING (WCM)
  • Apply the full set of WCM methods and tools to identify root causes, define countermeasures and validate their effectiveness, mastery of AM, PM, Q and FI tools and processes. Establish standards to support line operators sustain new basic conditions.

PROCESS AND ORGANISATIONAL DESIGN
  • Leverage technical knowledge and a systems approach to ensure factory lines and processes are optimally resourced (e.g., manpower ratios are efficient and sustainable).

ANALYTICAL CAPABILITY
  • Collect and analyse complex data to penetrate problems’ phenomena and understand root causes.

SAFETY
  • Complete Safety engagement and job observations.
  • Follow all site safety requirements and continuously adopt safe working practices. Take all steps to maintain own health and safety and health and safety of others.

PERSONNEL
  • To support the training of plant operators in the effective use of systems installed in the plant.
  • Provide Manufacturing / Production Leaders with the latest information on changes to the factory.
  • Effective planning, organisation, leadership and interaction with workplace teams and other support departments.
  • Eliminate Waste and Loss according to the WCM prioritization process using AM, PM, FI and QC pillar tools and methodologies.
  • Create Technical Standards to ensure process stability on the line.
  • Train line crews on technical standards and restoration of basic conditions (Stability sustainability).
  • Identify and extend good practice to other lines.
  • Application and accuracy of Managing Manufacturing Performance (MMP) Code data.

Key Competencies
  • Must possess good diagnostic and analytical skills and be able to apply them effectively.
  • Experience in materials handling & manufacturing processes.
  • An understanding of the fundamentals of process design.
  • An understanding of Manufacturing Excellence (TPM/WCM) principles.

Relevant Experience
  • Minimum 2-3 years’ experience working in a manufacturing environment, preferably with process improvements.
  • Understanding of statistics and process control tools, practices, and principles.
  • Demonstrate interpersonal skills and be able to communicate at all levels.

Qualifications / Skills
  • Must have degree in Mechanical, Chemical or Electrical Engineering with minimum 2 years’ experience in manufacturing OR
  • 5-7 years’ experience working in an FMCG environment exposure to Mannex /continues improvement/TPM/LEAN.
  • Strong communication skills: written and verbal.
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to work autonomously.
  • Ability to prioritise and ensure delivery to a high standard.
  • Results-driven, process-orientated.
