What's on offer?
This is an exciting opportunity for a Shift Manager in Wellsford. This role manages the operation of the mill using complex production, safety and quality processes. The role exercises considerable supervision, reporting responsibilities, plans and implements in-house training programmes.

The key responsibilities for this position include:Safety: Comply with relevant OHS/WHS legislation including:
  • Ensure that all site activities are conducted safely and in compliance with current workplace OH&S legislation and company policies.
  • Actively promoting and encouraging all employees to take responsibility for maintaining a safe work environment.
People
  • Collaborate with the Site Manager and Production Manager to review and maintain the company's Safety, Health, Environmental, and Quality systems.
  • Ensure all activities comply with current State or Federal workplace health and safety legislation and company policies.
  • Demonstrate a visible commitment to achieving a zero-incident workplace by providing clear and meaningful direction to staff.
  • Report all incidents and injuries promptly according to company policy.
  • Proactively investigate all incidents and injuries to determine the root cause, implement timely preventative and corrective actions, and record all details in Feed Track.
  • Schedule staff as needed to ensure timely completion of customer orders and daily production requirements.
  • Lead by setting and upholding clear standards of behaviour and performance that align with company objectives.
  • Foster a performance management culture through clear delegation of responsibilities and accountability.
  • Develop and submit Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions for Feed production and related activities for local authorization.
  • Address staff performance issues following company policy and due process, in consultation with Site Management, Production Manager, and HR, and take appropriate disciplinary actions as needed.
  • Conduct team TALK (toolbox) meetings to facilitate two-way communication and address issues.
  • Ensure production staff are properly trained to minimize downtime and meet legislative requirements.
  • Provide support and backup for the Production Scheduler, Production Manager, and Shift Supervisors as needed.
  • Manage and prepare mill operator hours in Kronos for weekly sign-off.
  • Develop, present, and record training and personal development programs for production staff using workbooks.
Quality
  • Conduct weekly site-wide 5S (housekeeping) audits focused on safety, cleanliness, and compliance. Address and record any sub-standard conditions or activities according to IMS Policies and Procedures.
  • Implement and oversee cleaning schedules to keep the plant in a clean and operational condition.
  • Support the National Quality Assurance team in maintaining the Integrated Management System.
  • Ensure production areas adhere to Ridley IMS policies and procedures.
  • Proactively manage product quality to ensure customers receive products that meet agreed standards.
  • Follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Points (HACCP) as defined by QA.
  • Investigate all customer complaints as part of the site management team to identify root causes, and implement and record corrective actions in Feed Track.
  • Ensure all dispatched finished products meet the agreed quality standards.
  • Coordinate with technical and plant personnel to verify correct formulation and version numbers are used in production.
  • Ensure no ingredient substitutions or remixing occur without prior approval from the relevant Technical staff and Site Manager, and record such changes appropriately.
  • Work with site and company Technical staff to ensure feed medications and additives are used at the correct rates and comply with Veterinary script requirements.
  • Collaborate with the management team to manage the repairs and maintenance of all production equipment to support quality objectives.
  • Actively participate in the development, implementation, maintenance, and review of the management system.
  • Provide support and back up where required for National testing schedule sample collection, registration and the administration of the program on site.
Service
  • Coordinate with site replenishment staff and Site Management to ensure adequate stock levels of raw materials for uninterrupted production, while adhering to Company inventory levels/guidelines.
Skills and Experience:
  • At least 5 years of experience in the food or stockfeed manufacturing industry, with exposure to plant management and process automation.
  • Knowledge of Lean Principles and proven experience in planning and implementing Continuous Improvement plans, including proactive preventative maintenance programs.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing, leading, and developing employees in a production environment.
  • Understanding of OHS&E, QA, and other statutory management standards and requirements.
  • Experience with safety and quality management systems.
  • Knowledge of HR and EEO requirements.
  • Understanding of stock control issues and methodologies.
  • Must hold a current driver’s license and be flexible to travel regionally as needed.
  • Hands-on attitude and skills.
  • Familiarity with mechanical equipment.
