We are looking for a Postdoc to join the team of an Austrian Science Fund (FWF) funded research project titled “Financing Growth Model Change in Europe’s Periphery” in the International Relations Department.

The position is funded for 24 months, non-renewable.

The research maps out the different financial adaptation strategies of Eastern EU member states. It analyses the Baltics banks turn to fintech; Slovakia, Czechia, and Poland’s retail-focused banks; Hungary’s financial nationalism; Romania’s financial regionalisation; and Slovenia’s turn to private banking. Different modules examine the interplay between financial systems, political environments, and economic transformations. By unpacking these complexities, the research aims to provide insights that inform policy-makers and foster sustainable growth in Eastern Europe.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Providing research support and research administration
• Designing data collection strategies; cross-national data management, including organizing, storing and managing data
• Assistance with the case studies
• Leading work stream on the Slovene case study, including analytical work
• Research assistance with the press coverage in native Slovenian
• Carry out their own research project
• International publication and presentation activities
• Regular presence at the CEU campus in Vienna;
• Proactive participation in organizing academic events

Nice to Have:

• Experience in project management or project coordination
• Field-relevant IT skills
• German language skills

Qualifications

• Doctorate/Ph D in Political Science, Sociology or a related discipline
• Research interest in the political economy of Slovenia in particular and of Eastern EU member states in general
• Very good written and spoken Slovenian skills
• Willingness to engage in interdisciplinary research
• Experience in international scholarly publishing
• Experience in international conference lecturing
• Very good written and spoken English skills

Monthly gross 4,752 EUR (based on FWF salary rates)
