The Queer Barber Studio is currently looking for a Barber Stylist to join the team on a temporary basis with the potential for a permanent position based on performance and business needs. The Queer Barber is a gender-neutral one chair hair studio that provides barbering and hairstyling services to all humans. This is a place where anyone can feel safe and comfortable to receive their gender-affirming haircut. The Queer Barber prides itself on being a space without fear, judgment, and toxic masculinity.

Barber Responsibilities:
  • Welcoming clients and consulting with them on their desired haircut.
  • Cutting and trimming hair according to clients' instructions.
  • Styling hair using appropriate styling products.
  • Shaving, trimming and shaping clients’ beards and mustaches.
  • Ensuring that combs, scissors, razors, and other instruments are cleaned and sanitized after each use.
  • Providing hairstyle suggestions to clients.
Barber Requirements:
  • Must live and be legally able to work in Canada
  • Secondary school degree or equivalent.
  • Experience with various haircut styles (short and long), including gender-affirming haircuts is a plus
  • The ability to follow instructions.
  • The ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Active listening skills.

Job Types: Fixed term contract, Freelance
Contract length: 2 months
Pay: $20.00-$50.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 per week

Schedule:
  • 8 hour shift
  • Weekends as needed
