The Case Manager will be a part of a team that provides Employment Consulting services to unemployed individuals within the National Capital region with an emphasis of serving Ontario Works clients and those demonstrating extensive barriers to employment. Reporting to the Director, the Case Manager is responsible for the planning and delivery of Employment Consulting services, matching job seekers to employment opportunities, recruitment of employers to match the needs of job seekers, and facilitation of the application process for the Government-funded training programs. As part of a team, the Case Manager will assist in meeting the strategic achievement of all desired outcomes and targets. The Case Manager will assist in monitoring job placement subsidies, and collecting documentation in order to process payments for employers.
Some of the tasks of this position include:
- Conducting full needs assessments of clients.
- Providing employment consultation to clients and maintaining and developing action plans for job searches.
- Assessing and assisting clients in achieving their employment goals through identifying and following up on action plans.
- Preparing clients for employment through the facilitation of life skills, job search, pre-employment and job maintenance workshops.
- Advocating on behalf of clients to community employers, services and programs that will move them closer to their employment goals.
- Consulting with team members and community partners to find employment opportunities and monitor progress in the work environment.
- Providing one year of job retention support to employed participants.
- Preparing all statistical and required reports and appropriate file documentation across multiple data bases.

The successful candidate will have the following:
Education
- Degree or Diploma in Employment Counseling, Social Service Worker/Social Work, or related program
- Fluent in English, oral and written
- Bilingualism is an asset
- Related experience might include: Recruitment, Training, HR Certification, Common Assessment Training, Life Skills Certification, Teaching and Training Adults Certification, Drug and Alcohol Counselling
- Experience in employment counselling and job development/matching
- Experience with case management and data entry
- Intermediate computer skills (use of databases, Microsoft Suite)
- High level of interpersonal oral and written communication skills
- Superior problem solving and creative skills
- Ability to work with adult and youth clients with diverse backgrounds and skill levels
- Ability to work with community partners and build and maintain relationships
- Applicants must already have a valid permit to work in Canada.
- A Police Record check, not more than 6 months old is required. Police Records checks are reviewed on an individual basis and the offense(s) - if any - is considered in the decision-making process in relation to the requirement of working with children, therefore not eliminating all candidates with a record from being offered a position.
- Annually, staff must complete the mandatory training for the protection of Children & Youth and submit the certificate of completion.
- Organizational Awareness and Understanding: Demonstrates and promotes a personal understanding of and appreciation for the vision, mission, and values of the YMCA of the National Capital Region.
- Planning and Organization: Ability to establish a clearly defined and effective course of action for self and others to accomplish short- and long-term work goals.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to identify an issue, gather and process relevant information, determine possible solutions, select appropriate responses and implement and evaluate them.
- Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Ability to speak, write, listen and secure information in a variety of settings. Ability to cooperate with others to achieve results. Ability to create and build relationships inside and outside the organization.
- Teamwork: Participates actively in a team for program quality and effectiveness.
