Intent of the process

The actual need is to staff one (1) position on Long Sault Island (Thorne, ON /Temiscaming, QC)

A pool of qualified or partially qualified candidates will be established and may be used to staff identical or similar positions with various linguistic requirements, security requirements and/or tenure within the Department of Public Services and Procurement Canada.

➥ A secondary school diploma or a combination of education, training and/or experience.
Degree equivalency

➥ Experience in the general operation of grass cutting and snow removal equipment.
➥ Experience in operating small boats and operating small outboard engines.

❗Note : The criteria for oral proficiency is defined Level A : Understands most speech that deals with concrete and routine topics and is delivered slowly and clearly in standard speech. A person speaking at this level can talk about everyday aspects of routine activities and handle a simple question-and-answer exchange.

➥ Must work at heights above water, in high risk conditions, and in inclement weather. Including physical functions such as on feet for long periods of time, up and down ladders, lifting up to 50lbs and bending repeatedly.

➥ Willing and able to be available on standby during off-duty hours, when it is required by the employer
➥ Required to travel long distances to work and/or training.
➥ Possess a valid driver’s license

INSTRUCTIONS - When responding to the screening questions, be sure you :

Ⓐ Clearly demonstrate how you meet each criteria (education and experience) by answering the online questions and provide concrete, specific examples of actions that speak directly to the experience sought.

Ⓑ Include when the example took place (month-year to month-year), background of each situation, what you did, how you did it, what your role was in the situation, and what was the outcome.

Ⓒ Focus on what you did. When referring to an experience achieved in the context of a team, set your role apart from the role(s) of others.

Ⓓ Validation of the qualifications; comments such as "refer to my attached résumé" will not be accepted and may result in your application being rejected. Information provided on your described experience should be supported by your resume.

Ⓔ Lack of DETAILS may result in your application being rejected as the Assessment Board may have insufficient information to determine whether you meet the qualifications.

ⒻThe ability to communicate effectively in writing will be assessed through your text answers to the questions when submitting your application.

ASSESSMENT: Once your application has been retained – 2nd Step

Some assessments may be conducted remotely, including teleconference or videoconference assessments.

❗️Please note that the INTERVIEW will be done at the workplace, at Long Sault Island (Thorne/Temiscaming). Certain exceptions could be granted, such as geographical distance. If, despite the distance, candidates wish to do their interview in person, they will be responsible for travel expenses associated for this selection process.

During the application or assessment process both cheating and plagiarism are considered forms of misconduct and are not permitted. Any person found cheating, including those who help others to cheat, may be subject to removal from the selection process.

Persons are entitled to participate in the appointment process in the official language(s) of their choice. Applicants are asked to indicate their preferred official language(s) in their application.

Preference

Preference will be given to veterans first and then to Canadian citizens and permanent residents, with the exception of a job located in Nunavut, where Nunavut Inuit will be appointed first.
