Duties
The Dam Operator will be responsible of (both at the Timiskaming and Latchford dams)
- Operating the dam as per training and operational procedures
- Keeping records of dam operations
- Conducting regular visual inspection of the overall sites
- Conducting snow surveys
- Drafting minor reports for accidents, incidents, complaints and delays in the log book
- Escorting contractors or stakeholders throughout the site
- General maintenance of PSPC grounds and buildings
- Snow clearing on PSPC grounds and operational deck
- De-icing of sluices using both mechanical equipment and hand tools
- Installation, removal and maintenance of waterway barriers (use of boat required)
- Maintaining and servicing of all tools, machinery and equipment
- Maintaining surveillance of marine traffic (if beyond safety barriers or signs)
- Administrative tasks (timesheets, leave or overtime request, mandatory courses, etc)
- Follow all safety protocols and departmental regulations in the performance of their duties

Intent of the process
The actual need is to staff one (1) position on Long Sault Island (Thorne, ON /Temiscaming, QC)A pool of qualified or partially qualified candidates will be established and may be used to staff identical or similar positions with various linguistic requirements, security requirements and/or tenure within the Department of Public Services and Procurement Canada.

➥ A secondary school diploma or a combination of education, training and/or experience.
Degree equivalency

➥ Experience in the general operation of grass cutting and snow removal equipment.
➥ Experience in operating small boats and operating small outboard engines.
➥ Experience in the operations and maintenance of small engines such as, but not limited to : chain saws, trimmers and generators

➥ Must work at heights above water, in high risk conditions, and in inclement weather. Including physical functions such as on feet for long periods of time, up and down ladders, lifting up to 50lbs and bending repeatedly.
➥ Willing and able to work overtime as needed
➥ Willing and able to be available on standby during off-duty hours, when it is required by the employer
➥ Required to travel long distances to work and/or training.
➥ Possess a valid driver’s license

ASSESSMENT: Once your application has been retained – 2nd Step
Some assessments may be conducted remotely, including teleconference or videoconference assessments.
❗️Please note that the INTERVIEW will be done at the workplace, at Long Sault Island (Thorne/Temiscaming). Certain exceptions could be granted, such as geographical distance. If, despite the distance, candidates wish to do their interview in person, they will be responsible for travel expenses associated for this selection process.
