Job Summary:

Reporting to the Medical Director, Radiation Oncology Program and under the oversight and general direction of the Chief of Clinical Operations, the Director of Patient Services, Radiation Therapy oversees and manages multidisciplinary teams composed of direct and indirect patient care staff. The primary objective of this role is to lead and ensure the delivery of safe, effective, and efficient patient care. The incumbent will inspire and guide staff to embrace and implement integrated, person-centred care and service delivery models for Cancer Care Manitoba (CCMB).

Central to this role is a strong commitment to a patient-first mindset, prioritizing the needs and experiences of patients with cancer. The Director will work closely with the multidisciplinary team to create a seamless care experience, ensuring that each patient receives person-centred care. By engaging staff in decision-making and open communication, the Director will cultivate a culture of innovation and support, inspiring and guiding the team to embrace and implement integrated, person-centred care and service delivery models.

Innovation is a critical component of this role, as the Director will lead efforts to implement evidence-based practices in radiation therapy in close collaboration with medical physics and physician groups. This includes exploring new treatment modalities and enhancing existing protocols. The Director will also spearhead initiatives that promote research and continuous improvement, fostering an environment where staff can thrive and contribute. In addition to clinical leadership, the Director of Patient Services, Radiation Therapy, will champion health equity by advocating for access to care for diverse populations. This involves identifying barriers to treatment and collaborating with relevant stakeholders to ensure patients receive the care they need.

The Director of Patient Services, Radiation Therapy is accountable for providing patient-centric operational leadership in a financially responsible manner. Collaboration with clinical and non-clinical leadership teams, internal teams, and external stakeholders is essential to support patients accessing quality cancer services. Additionally, the role involves monitoring and evaluating key performance indicators, working collaboratively with stakeholders, and ensuring safe, effective, and appropriate patient care through the clinical quality framework and a patient-centric approach. Ultimately, the aim is to cultivate an environment that promotes clinical and service excellence.

Qualifications:

Education
  • Post-secondary degree in radiation therapy, engineering, or business administration from an accredited education institution is required
  • A relevant graduate degree is strongly preferred


Experience
  • 7 years of progressive experience leading a broad spectrum of health services in a publicly funded health services delivery organization.
  • 5 years of management experience within the healthcare field is required.
  • 3 years of management experience leading a clinical operations team within a unionized environment is desired.
  • 3 years of experience implementing program planning, development and evaluation is required.
  • 3 years experience in radiation therapy operations is preferred.


An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrated strong organizational, interpersonal, communications and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to adeptly manage multiple requests and exhibits exceptional time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Relevant healthcare-related management courses are an asset, including but not limited to change management, patient satisfaction and experience, multidisciplinary team environments, conflict resolution, and quality improvement.
  • Proven ability to negotiate and mediate resolutions to complex situations.
  • Ability to lead people, manage change, develop strategy and execute plans.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, including the ability to make effective presentations to groups.
  • Knowledge of health equity issues and social determinants of health and their impact on patient outcomes and experience.
  • Understanding of various reports, including Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action (2015).
  • Model and support full team commitment to Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism.
  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada.
  • Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting Indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports.


Required Licenses, Registration , Designations
  • Active member in good standing of an associated regulatory body is preferred


Physical Demands and Working Conditions
  • Must be able to work safely in a typical computerized office environment with frequent meetings and to lift and carry items
  • Interruptions to respond to questions from executives and partner organizations are common; dedicated and focused time for planning and concentration can be scheduled.
  • Must have a valid Manitoba driver’s license and use of a personal motor vehicle for regular travel within the province
