Disability Services Worker, Full-Time with Overnight Scheduling

This Supportive Independent Living program in Slave Lake, AB, encourages persons with developmental disabilities to maximize their independence, further develop their unique strengths and enjoy community integration through social, recreational and community activities.
In Your Role You Will
- Support individuals with household chores, life skills, personal hygiene (if needed).
- Provide supports as per the individual's care plan
- Provide immediate support in crisis situations and use de-escalation techniques to deal with behaviours
- Administer medication, first aid if/when necessary.
- Use computer program to write objective daily reports and document notes & observations regarding the client
- A complete and detailed list of key responsibilities can be available at time of interview.
The front-line DSW sleeps at the client's residence and is available, if needed, to assist the client during overnight hours. During overnight hours sleep shift staff ensure a consistent, healthy and safe environment for the person in care and are available to provide immediate support in crisis situations. In the event of an emergent situation, sleep staff will be responsible for awake responsibilities.
Position does include the risk of physical aggression and the risk of theft of personal property.
Scheduling
One (1) permanent full-time position with a 2-week rotation that includes alternating weekend scheduling. Position is made up of:
- Scheduled 12 hour shifts, 1900-0700
- One 12 hour shift includes 4hrs of Awake scheduling and 8hrs of Sleep scheduling
- Two week rotation totals 84 hours bi-weekly
*** Prior to confirmation of employment all applicants must provide a current (dated within 6 months of hiring date) Criminal Record Check and Ministry Check. These checks can take up to 6 weeks to obtain, please ensure you prepare accordingly.
As An Ideal Candidate You Possess
- MUST HAVE 2 years experience working with individuals with significant mental health concerns, aggressive behaviours and/or trauma.
- Ability to work well in an environment with potential for aggression/violence.
- Diploma or Degree – Disability Service Worker, Social Work, Special Education, Health Care Aide, Personal Support Worker or related field.
- Valid class 5 driver license (or GDL and 3 years Canadian driving experience) with clear driving abstract and reliable vehicle.
- Clear and current, National Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Current First Aid/CPR and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certification (NVCI or CPI).
- Training in Trauma Informed Practice, Medication Administration, Suicide Intervention, Behaviour Management, Conflict Resolution, Food Safe.
- Confident and able to function in a crisis.
- Ability to perform personal care for clients and handle bodily fluids.
- Ability to work within an environment in which there is daily smoking/vaping by the client.
