The Opportunity:
Company, Department: Nova Scotia Power, Eastern Clean Energy Initiative

Our roadmap for the Path to 2030 is aligned with the province’s Clean Power Plan. It’s going to take a mix of energy solutions to enable us to reach 80% renewable energy. Together, we know we need to reach our climate goals while doing what’s best for Nova Scotians — balancing costs and ensuring that as your electricity gets greener, it stays reliable, too. The Eastern Clean Energy team plays a pivotal role in getting us there.

We are looking for an Environmental Compliance Monitor to join our Eastern Clean Energy team. Reporting to the Environment Manager, the Environmental Compliance Monitor is responsible for site monitoring of various projects, documenting observations, and making recommendations for contractor compliance with the Environmental Protection Plan (EPP).

Note: this is a term position with an expected end date of December 2028.

  • Documenting findings in a GIS phone app, including photos.
  • Enter Nova Scotia Power Safety and Environmental Incident Reports and review Contractor Incident Reports.
  • Coordinate level of effort with the environmental aspects of construction activities; specifically monitoring activities with potential environmental effects (e.g. installation of temporary bridges, culverts, and wetland crossings).
  • Providing oversight of contractor’s environmental mitigation and spill response.
  • Review of contractor’s installation of Erosion and Sediment Controls.
  • Preparation and presentation of environmental information for public presentations.
  • Attending meetings at Nova Scotia Power Lower Water Street office in Halifax when needed.
  • Working safely and independently in the field year-round in a variety of environments and weather conditions.
  • Maintaining supportive and respectful working relationship with Mi’kmaq Community Monitors.
