About this Role:
As an Expander Machine Operator, you would work as a team in a flexible manufacturing environment, operating automated machines and computer-controlled systems to manufacture commercial refrigeration equipment. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up and operating expander machines, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring all materials and work performed adhere to organizational standards and safety regulations.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Operate computer setup/controls to manage expander processes efficiently.
• Read and interpret piping schematics, blueprints, and other technical diagrams.
• Execute accurate setups using specialized tools and maintain knowledge of expander processes.
• Load raw materials and unload finished products as part of the manufacturing process.
• Communicate defects and issues with lead hands and supervisors to ensure quality and timely resolution.
• Collaborate with maintenance personnel and supervisors to troubleshoot and correct problems as they arise.
• Maintain safe working conditions and adhere to all organizational and provincial safety guidelines.
  
• Follow all production procedures as instructed, and perform all work to manufacturing specifications.
• Work effectively, as part of a team, in a unionized environment to ensure quality and productivity.
• Ensure the daily and weekly production schedule is adhered to.
• Participate in educational and training sessions as necessary.
• Complete other duties and tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Preferred qualifications include:

• Must be reliable, punctual and able to work in a fast-paced, labour-intensive manufacturing environment.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience in operating machines and tools.
• 2+ years of experience operating an expander or automated machine in a manufacturing or production setting.
• Ability to read and interpret technical schematics, blueprints, and diagrams.
• Proficient in basic math for accurate measurements, calculations, and troubleshooting.
• Committed to maintaining high standards of quality and safety.
• College diploma in industrial or mechanical engineering, electrical, HVACR, or equivalent work experience in a related field is preferred.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Adaptable and flexible with the ability to adjust to changing tasks and priorities.
• Hold or be eligible to obtain in-house crane certification.

Core Physical requirements include the ability to:

• Stand for prolonged periods throughout the shift (10 hours)
• Lift 20-30 pounds consistently throughout the shift, with occasional lifts of up to 50 pounds.
• Perform repetitive shoulder and arm movements, including pushing tubes/hairpins into cores.
• Regularly bend, twist, and climb ladders as needed throughout the shift.
• Perform work at/ above shoulder level regularly throughout the shift
• Power and pinch grip with both hands consistently throughout the shift

Hours of Work: Monday to Thursday 4:00 pm - 2:30 am

Wage: As per current CBA Wage Progression ($24.86 - $35.07)
