The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) is a regulatory agency that reports to the Ministry of the Attorney General. The AGCO is responsible for regulating the alcohol, gaming, horseracing, and cannabis retail sectors in Ontario, in accordance with the principles of honesty and integrity, and in the public interest.

The Controllership branch is seeking a Financial Analyst to join their team. Reporting to the Controller, the Financial Analyst will play a key role in controllership responsibilities as well as accurate and timely reporting and reconciliations for period-end and year-end for the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO).
In this role, the successful candidate will:
- Prepare accurate and timely financial reports, materials and decks for the proactive identification and resolution of issues and overall improvement of financial controllership.
- Prepare schedules and disclosures for financial statements and other management reports.
- Administer and maintain integrity of AGCO accounts, including the preparation of journals to ensure proper fiscal control and cash flow.
- Perform a variety of in-depth financial analyses to facilitate informed decision-making.
- Oversee financial data in the financial system (e.g., Oracle), reconciles accounts, analyze spending patterns and financial data; summarize and prepare financial reports as requested.
- Provide accurate and reliable financial information, analysis and advice in relation to controllership business planning and budget management.
- Provide supporting analysis or documents for the purposes of internal and external audits.
- Assist with the preparation of account reconciliations for period-ends.
- Perform a variety of in-depth financial analyses to facilitate informed decision-making.
- Provide support to the accounting, control and administrative functions of the Controllership branch, and continuous improvement of all business processes; Liaise with internal and external partners and stakeholders.
- A CPA accounting designation or equivalent (or currently pursuing), coupled with a BA or MA in Business or a related field.
- Knowledge and experience working with accounting principles, budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, reporting, and the month-end process in an Enterprise Resource Planning system, with an understanding of forecast cycles, planning dimensionality and workflows in a system, and supporting the loading and reconciliation of actuals and any updates to metadata in a system.
- Demonstrated ability to identify financial trends, investigate financial errors, omissions, variances and recommend solutions.
- Ability to prioritize a variety of competing tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Analytical skills to compile and analyze data from a variety of sources and prepare reports/summaries.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively and share information across organizational lines towards shared business outcomes.
- Experience utilizing MS Office Suite of programs (Excel, Word, Power Point, Access) at the Intermediate to Advanced Level.
- The successful candidate must be eligible to work in Canada and will be subject to a criminal background check.
