Please note that this posting is to develop a roster of casual staff to support activities as required over the winter; therefore, the position is UP TO 35 hours with none guaranteed.
Location - Work primarily takes place at the University of Alberta Botanic Garden. This role is in-person.

Position
Reporting to the Guest Experience Lead, Hospitality Operations, the Guest Experience Representative 1s (GER1s) are the primary guest-facing team members of the UABG. They deliver exceptional guest experiences and ensure that guests and clients have memorable experiences at the UABG. GER1s support the execution of Hospitality Operations team activities, including bookings for UABG facilities, and support activities within the Guest Services Field Trips teams as required. Collaborating closely with various departments, this role involves engaging with guests and clients in a positive and professional manner, working with interdisciplinary teams, contributing to a variety of required tasks, completing physical labour for set up and tear down of spaces, and working outdoors for extended periods in all weather conditions. The underlying foundation is a commitment to excellence combined with a proactive approach, which contributes to establishing our reputation as a premier destination for unparalleled hospitality.
Duties
- Execution of events with regard to setup, on-site support, and teardown
- Preparations for the 2025 operational season, including completion of the inventory
- Infrastructure maintenance by completing building inspections
- Winter opening by manning the Welcome Centre
- Other duties as required to support overwinter operations at the UABG
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Strong organization skills, accuracy, and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
- Enjoy working outdoors, able to stand for extended periods of time and outside work in all weather
- Ability to lift and carry 30 pounds
- CSA-approved steel-toed footwear is required
- Flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, is required
- Valid Class 5 driver's license - the UABG is not accessible by public transportation
- Knowledge of nature and the environment
- Standard First Aid (within 3 years) and CPR C certification (within 1 year)
- Intelli Leisure knowledge
- Experience with and understanding of Google Suite
