Indigenous Policy Analyst

CNA is the national and global professional voice of Canadian nursing. CNA is the only national association that speaks for all types of nurses across all 13 provinces and territories. Role:
Policy analysis and development within the Indigenous context is integral to advancing the mission of our organization. The Indigenous Policy Analyst will be primarily responsible for:
  • Leading the development, implementation, education, and evaluation of policies pertinent to Indigenous communities, aligning with organizational strategic objectives.
  • Setting clear policy priorities, targets, and strategies to maximize impact in Indigenous policy domains.
  • Crafting and implementing policy instruments that articulate our organization's stance on Indigenous policy matters for various stakeholders, including Indigenous communities, government entities, and organizational leadership.
CNA is a virtual workplace, the incumbent must reside in Canada.
Key responsibilities:
  • Establishing, implementing, and evaluating policy priorities for Indigenous communities in alignment with organizational strategies.
  • Identifying prevailing and emerging trends and issues in Indigenous policy and healthcare, ensuring internal stakeholders are informed and engaged in addressing these matters.
  • Monitoring and analyzing trends and issues pertinent to Indigenous populations and healthcare delivery.
  • Providing counsel to organizational leadership, senior management, and policy teams on Indigenous policy priorities.
  • Advising on the necessity for new research, resources, or policies to address Indigenous policy needs.
  • Overseeing the development of policy discussion papers, reports, and briefing materials through extensive research and consultation.
  • Acting as a catalyst for change within the Indigenous community and healthcare systems.
  • Collaborating with government relations, communications, and marketing teams to synchronize policy efforts with broader organizational initiatives.
  • Conducting environmental scans, literature reviews, and trend analyses to inform evidence-based policy decisions.
  • Facilitating collaboration between policymakers and researchers to promote evidence-informed decision-making in healthcare management.
  • Anticipating information requirements and tracking healthcare trends to support policy development.
  • Leading and managing projects impacting Indigenous policy, from design to evaluation and dissemination.
  • Representing the organization's position on Indigenous programs and initiatives through presentations and participation in cross-functional teams.
  • Requires travel as necessary to fulfill job duties.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor/Master’s degree in nursing
  • Bachelor/Master's degree in Indigenous studies, public policy, social sciences, or a related field preferred
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in various roles within Indigenous communities or related policy fields.
  • Proven track record in policy analysis, development, and research methodologies.
  • In-depth understanding of Indigenous issues, culture, and historical context.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Proficiency in teamwork and collaboration.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of professional and regulatory issues faced by Indigenous nurses.
  • Analytical prowess to assess problems, gather information, and devise effective solutions.
  • Strong leadership abilities to guide policy initiatives effectively.
  • Results-driven mindset.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications.
  • Discretion in handling confidential information.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in conducting meetings, briefings, and facilitating group discussions.
  • Capacity to thrive under pressure and adapt to changing project circumstances.
  • Strong multitasking abilities to manage competing priorities effectively.
Desirable qualifications:
  • Nurses who self-identify as First Nations, Inuit or Métis preferred
  • Indigenous language speakers preferred
  • Fluently bilingual in English/French preferred
  • CNA certification credential
  • Experience working with a professional association
  • Experience with project management and/or program development
  • Background in project management or program development.
  • Recent experience in Indigenous community engagement or clinical practice.
  • Current nursing licensure
  • Membership in CNA
