Manager - Nicotine Dependence Service Clinic

Job Description

The INTREPID Lab at CAMH is seeking a full-time temporary (18 months) Manager to lead people and projects related to our digital health innovations and integrations. INTREPID is a large team that spans Research, Education, Healthcare system support and Commercialization across Ontario and Canada. INTREPID advances care across the broader healthcare system through development and implementation of high quality care pathways and treatment provisions. INTREPID’s work gets upstream by working with hundreds of primary care organizations to detect and intervene for mental illness and chronic disease risk factors among people with tobacco addiction and mental health illness. INTREPID integrates teaching and research to build system capacity today and translate research into practice faster tomorrow. INTREPID’s work is accomplished by its team of operational leaders, scientists, affiliate scientists, clinicians, staff, graduate students and other trainees. INTREPID’s work is data-driven. It collects and curates high quality data, and uses advanced analytics to drive practice change. Digital health is integrated in nearly all of INTREPID’s work.
This position will report to the Director of Operations at INTREPID, and work collaboratively with other managers, scientists and clinicians. The successful candidate will support a healthy workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork, and complies with all applicable policies, regulatory and legislative requirements. This position is currently located at the 1025 Queen Street with a hybrid onsite/remote work arrangement that may transition to a fully onsite work arrangement in the future.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the design, development, implementation, optimization and scale-up of digital health resources, programs, and interventions, such as virtual care models, automated care pathways, mobile and web applications, at INTREPID Lab
  • Build and maintain relationships with funders, vendors, and other key stakeholders to lead the development of new, and optimization of existing, virtual care programs and digital health applications, and their scale-up across Canada
  • Apply principles of health equity, form advisory groups and drive the co-creation of culturally informed digital interventions with diverse stakeholders and people with lived/living experience
  • Own all aspects of digital health projects as well as digital health components integrated in other projects, including development of multi-year workplans, alignment with INTREPID’s strategy, resource allocation, performance indicators, implementation and reporting
  • Maintain and create management systems and SOPs to manage the day-to-day operations of INTREPID’s digital health initiatives
  • Apply critical thinking and analytical skills to make key decisions regarding program operations
  • Lead team meetings for the cross-functional team members working on digital health solutions
  • Hire and manage staff to advance INTREPID’s goals and deliver projects to specification; performance management of staff; support growth and professional development of staff and students
  • Manage budgets and produce financial reports
  • Procure resources, manage vendor contracts and supply chain
  • Work with all necessary departments at CAMH to secure and accomplish vendor selection; due diligence, legal agreements; Privacy Impact Assessments, Vulnerability Assessments, Penetration Testing, and the remediation of risks;
  • Awareness of all relevant regulatory requirements and ensure compliance with these requirements by staff and processes
  • Seek out and update own knowledge of developments and advancements in digital health technologies and trends in their adoption in Ontario’s health system and in the healthcare field in general
  • Advance innovation in INTREPID’s digital health portfolio through developing business cases, proposals, statement of works, activity analysis, threats and opportunities analysis, and key stakeholder buy-in
  • Support strategic decisions through presentation of trade-offs based on data analysis, market research, relevant stakeholder inputs and other information
  • Engage potential partners and sponsors, and develop pitch decks for commercializing digital health solutions to other provinces and jurisdictions
  • Demonstrate excellent judgment, tact and diplomacy in all encounters with INTREPID team members, internal and external collaborators, partners, customers and funders
  • Carry out all necessary administrative tasks and activities

Job Requirements

  • Post-secondary degree or equivalent in digital health, clinical research, Public Health, Knowledge Translation or related.
  • 7 to 10 years of progressive and relevant experience
  • Experience working on digital heath interventions and/or app development
  • Experience engaging and maintaining relationships with diverse stakeholders; leading advisory groups to inform key project decisions
  • Experience working collaboratively with technology vendors (i.e., software or IT vendors) to design and implement digital health initiatives
  • Demonstrated experience with project management and program planning; ability to create, manage and delegate project workplans; identify risks to timelines and strategize with senior leadership accordingly
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to make strategic decisions with little oversight in order to move projects forward
  • Superior analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills, with a strong ability to work under pressure, and to work on a high volume of diverse projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgetary and financial data (e.g., budget forecasting, reading financial reports and preparing budgets)
  • Human resource management practices in a unionized environment is required
  • Demonstrated ability to critically analyze, evaluate, and resolve problems; ability to initiate ideas to move projects forward
  • Excellent interpersonal skills as well as a strong command of oral and written communications
