Position Overview:
Optical technologies have tremendous potential to drastically reduce the energy consumption of modern computing systems, while addressing the growing demand for higher bandwidth and faster processing speeds. As we scale our business and ramp up to high-volume production of optical chips, we are seeking a talented software engineer to play a key role in driving the success of both ongoing and new projects. In this role, you will join a cross-functional team and work to automate data analysis, streamline workflows, and build the software infrastructure that will support the launch of cutting-edge optical products. Our small, highly collaborative R&D team leverages the latest technological breakthroughs to push the boundaries of what’s possible, with every team member playing a key role in our success.
Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain robust Python code for data analysis of optical chip measurements.
• Analyze large datasets to derive actionable insights and guide design and product development decisions.
• Optimize and scale cloud-based database infrastructure to support a growing user base and ensure high performance under increasing traffic demands.
• Communicate with internal teams and external partners to identify areas for automation and process improvements.
• Ensure the stability, scalability and performance of key database infrastructure.
• Design, implement and deploy new features to support ongoing development of new products.
• Work closely with the design and production teams to understand evolving requirements and implement scalable solutions to support the ramp-up to high-volume production.

Required skills:

• Strong programming skills in Python, including proficiency with pandas, numpy, and data visualization libraries.
• 3+ years hands-on software development experience, with a solid understanding of best practices for writing robust and efficient code.
• Fluency with Git version control for collaborative development.
• Comfortable working in Unix-based environments, including using the command line to connect to and manage headless remote servers, virtual machines and cloud deployments.
• Experience interacting with databases via Python drivers (e.g. pymongo or similar).
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high attention to detail.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related field.

Bonus skills:

• Experience with configuration, maintenance and optimization of non-relational database systems in a production environment.
• Experience working with large datasets, including understanding the challenges of performance optimization, memory management, and efficient data processing at scale.
• Strong background in math and the ability to translate mathematical ideas into code.
• Hands-on experience with AWS cloud services and infrastructure.
• Experience with Django.
