i Gaming Ontario leads the Province of Ontario’s new, dynamic, internet gaming (igaming) market that, in its second year generated $63 billion in total wagers, a 78% increase over its first year. This resulted in $2.4 billion in total gaming revenue from over 45 gaming operators and over 1.6 million active player accounts. In its second year Ontario’s igaming market is estimated to have sustained more than 15,000 full-time equivalent jobs across the province. i Gaming Ontario is seeking a Privacy Officer to join its dynamic team. Reporting to the General Counsel and Corporate Secretary and mentored by the Senior Privacy Officer, you will fulfill a key role in ensuring compliance with applicable privacy laws and regulations, privacy policies, and addressing privacy issues about and impacting the organization.
Responsibilities in the role include:
- Participating in projects to ensure privacy issues remains a central consideration throughout all projects.
- Soliciting and eliciting administrative, technical, and physical information from subject matter experts (SMEs).
- Thinking critically about systems, legislative duties, safeguards, and access controls to protect personal information.
- Reviewing project approaches, procedures, policies, associated materials, and safeguards to provide SMEs input and observations.
- Assisting and drafting Privacy Impact Assessments, revising PIAs prior to implementation, and creating addendums to PIAs after implementation.
- Conducting research and developing materials, as required.
- Assisting the Senior Privacy Officer with duties associated with the administration of privacy compliance.
- Creation and maintenance of a privacy risk reporting system.
- Monitoring the Privacy inbox and answering operator inquiries as appropriate.
- Maintaining system for reporting breaches, PIA risk management, etc.
- University Degree in a relevant field (Public Administration, Information Science).
- Certified Information Privacy Professional for Canada (CIPP/C) and/or Certified Information Privacy Technologist (CIPT) is an asset.
- Some experience with Privacy Legislation, both Federal and Provincial and CASL.
- Demonstrated understanding of legislation and regulatory frameworks (Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, PIPEDA and the General Data Protection Regulation, GDPR, etc.,) and their applicability in the i Gaming Ontario environment.
- Knowledge of Information and Information Technology concepts and processes that impact the protection of personal information, including (but not limited to) Internet tools, system interfaces, cybersecurity, information/data architecture, data integration and data flows.
- Familiarity with the gaming industry including knowledge of casino gambling and sports wagering is an asset.
- Demonstrated initiative, good judgement, discretion and tact in dealing effectively with all levels of employees, and external stakeholders and customers.
- Excellent organizational skills, proven ability to set priorities and ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to facilitate information gathering, advise individuals of decisions or action, and to formulate correspondence.
- Moderate knowledge and experience using various software programs (i.e. MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Access, Outlook, MS Project, MS Visio Share Point, and Monday project management tools).
This position currently offers a hybrid work location. i Gaming Ontario has implemented a minimum three-day per week in-office schedule. i Gaming Ontario reserves the right to change this policy and its office location at any time.
This position falls within the scope of a bargaining unit represented by the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU). In the upcoming months, i Gaming Ontario and OPSEU will be negotiating the terms of a collective agreement which, once concluded, will govern the terms and conditions of this position.
