Working for the College of Natural and Applied Sciences (CNAS)
The College of Natural and Applied Sciences (CNAS) spans the entire range of scientific teaching and research, from pure and fundamental discovery that advances our understanding of the world around us to the direct application of science and technology that transforms and improves lives and sustains the environment. CNAS is home to over 14,000 undergraduate students and 3,000 graduate students through the Faculties of Agricultural, Life & Environmental Sciences; Engineering; and Science.
Position
Reporting to the Director, Office of Education, the Program Coordinator is responsible for supporting student academic needs, including administration related to graduate admissions, enrolment, registration, awards, exams, academic scheduling, and student records, as well as supports Work Integrated Learning (WIL) administration.
Duties
Graduate Program Support
- Supports departments and faculties with regard to graduate student admissions, courses, examinations, and awards.
- Assists with admissions to and administration of course-based masters programs.
- Coordinates committee meetings including scheduling, preparation of materials, recording minutes, and preparing reports.
- Reviews and updates Faculty/School graduate studies information on the website.
- Liaises with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies, the Registrar’s Office, the Office of the Dean of Students, and other service units on processes related to academic programs and students.
- Provides support to the College/Faculty for WIL and Experiential Learning activities (eg, I-STEAM Pathways, MITACS BSI).
- Gathers data and information from relevant areas (both internal and external to the College) as required and provides statistical reports for analysis and planning purposes.
- References policy and procedure information as needed from avenues such as Faculty Councils, the University Calendar, UAPPOL and GFC.
- Provides student policy interpretation and advice for process improvement.
- Undergraduate degree; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
- Minimum of two years of related experience, particularly in a post-secondary environment.
- Proficiency in Google Suite, and Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel
- Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated intercultural understanding.
- Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communication.
- Excellent time management skills with the proven ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and competing deadlines in a very demanding, fast-paced environment while maintaining superior accuracy.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills, including problem assessment and escalation.
- Knowledge of University of Alberta policies and procedures.
- Experience with student administration systems (e.g. Campus Solutions (People Soft), Slate and Graduate Studies Management Solution (GSMS)).
