ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the Manager, Strategic Economic Initiatives, is responsible for leading the development, implementation, monitoring and reporting on business, academic, and community innovation initiatives with a specific focus on post-secondary education, business incubation and commercialization research); developing, leading and executing program strategies to support business collaboration and innovation; compiling and analyzing business, economic and research data to support economic development initiatives focused on innovation; developing and managing stakeholder relationships that foster innovation and support the Region’s economic development goals; and preparing reports and presentations.


WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

  • Leads the development and implementation of new projects and programs that support collaboration and innovation in the Region, with a specific focus on broadband connectivity and intelligent community applications or on post-secondary education, business incubation and commercialization research.
  • Manages projects and assignments as required by the Manager; consults extensively with various stakeholders and organizations and provides advice and recommendations to support project goals and objectives.
  • Leads, supports or facilitates internal and/or external innovation-oriented stakeholder advisory and working groups.
  • Compiles business, economic and research data that is required to build collaborations that support innovation and broadband connectivity or post-secondary education, business incubation and commercialization research in the Region.
  • Leads the development and implementation of new programs that support collaboration and innovation in the Region with a specific focus on broadband connectivity and intelligent community applications or on post-secondary education, business incubation and commercialization research.
  • Develops implementation guidelines for new or changed policies, procedures and program initiatives for the Manager.
  • Conducts research, reviews programs and conducts analysis to identify operational needs, resource requirements/impacts, and potential procedural impacts of changes; makes recommendations and identifies appropriate strategies to the Manager.
  • Attends and/or makes presentations at public and professional forums.
  • Leads partnership resource development with the business community, local municipalities and external economic and trade development organizations.
  • Gathers background information and conducts research to support the preparation of reports to Regional Council on Program initiatives.
  • Compiles, analyzes and reports data on demographic, economic, cultural, sociological and physical factors affecting economic development.
  • Performs office administrative tasks, as required.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
  • Successful completion of a University degree in Business/Public Administration, Education or related field or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum three (3) years demonstrated experience in project management, leading multi-stakeholder projects and programs, and managing complex technical, economic development and/or business development and post-secondary education investment projects).
  • Project Management Professional Designation or demonstrated project management knowledge and experience equivalent to the skills acquired through the completion of the program.
  • Experience in building and managing individual and organizational relationships.
  • Leadership competencies including operating strategically, leveraging diversity and differences, customer focused, ensuring accountability, managing complex problems, financial management, employing interactive and effective communication, fostering collaborative relationships, cultivating engagement to drive vision and purpose, managing and developing talent, establishing and maintaining trust, displaying self-awareness, and demonstrating resiliency.
  • Thorough knowledge of planning principles, concepts, practices, methods and applicable legislation.
  • Knowledge of statistical and analysis techniques, demographic forecasting, and economic base analysis and forecasting.
  • Knowledge of government policy and programs related to business innovation, post-secondary education and incubator development.
  • Knowledge of the organizations, industry associations and government programs related to economic development, post-secondary education and incubator development.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including customer service, communication, team work, initiative/self-management.
