Project Logistics Specialist

SCOPE OF POSITION:
The International Logistics Project Specialist is responsible for the planning and coordination of delivery of complex loads across international borders. This role involves managing the logistics of oversized or specialized shipments that require permits, ensuring compliance with international regulations, and adhering to strict project timelines.

Responsibilities
Logistics Planning and Route Optimization
  • Support the development and implementation of the logistics plans for complex international shipments.
  • Collaborate with project managers to align logistics activities with project timelines.
  • Develop and oversee comprehensive project plans for the importation process, including timelines, resource allocation, and risk management.
  • Assist in planning and optimizing transportation routes to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery. Address logistical challenges that arise during transit.
Supplier and Carrier Coordination
  • Support the selection and negotiation with freight forwarders, carriers, and other logistics providers.
  • Maintain strong relationships with suppliers and carriers.
Documentation and Compliance
  • Prepare and manage all necessary documentation for international shipments. Ensure compliance with customs regulations and other legal requirements.
  • Permit Management: Understanding rules and regulations for moving oversized equipment.
  • Creating a plan that mitigates risk. Identify and assist in obtaining necessary permits for transporting oversized or specialized loads.
  • Ensure compliance with international, national, and local regulations.
  • Executing plan. Manage all aspects of the import process, including customs clearance, transportation logistics, and compliance with Canadian regulations
Risk Management and On Time Delivery
  • Identify potential risks in the logistics process and implement mitigation measures.
  • Monitor shipments to ensure safe and secure on-time delivery.
Performance Monitoring and Reporting
  • Track and report on the performance of logistics activities.
  • Provide regular updates to stakeholders on shipment status and any issues encountered.
  • Monitor and control logistics costs, negotiating with vendors to achieve the best rates without compromising quality.
Team Collaboration
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including procurement, engineering, and quality assurance, to align logistics activities with overall project goals.
Skills
  • University Degree in Supply Chain Managment, Business Administrator or a related field (or equivalent)
  • CIFFA Certified and Dangerous Goods Certifications is required
  • Strong knowledge of supply chain management principles and practices.
  • 5-7 years Freight forwarding experience moving complex and oversized equipment via all modes of transportation is required.
  • Strong expertise and experience with international shipping regulations and permit requirements
  • Ability to analyze data for demand planning and process improvement initiatives.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with a proven ability to manage complex logistics projects.
  • Project management experience, including planning, execution, and monitoring of logistics projects
