Description:
The ideal candidate will hold a Ph.D. in microbiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or a closely related field. Post-doctoral experience is a strong asset. Responsible for the delivery and evaluation of contract research in accordance with contract requirements and company policies, procedures and guidelines. Responsible for the planning, delivery, and evaluation of research programs associated with product development, with a particular focus on development and evaluation of microbial detection assays for the agri-food industry. A strong background is required in science and laboratory procedures—particularly pertaining to microbiology (e.g., culturing) and biochemistry or molecular biology (e.g., ELISA, RT-q PCR). Experience with digital platforms, magnetic beads, and antibody-based detection assays is a definite asset. Strong communication skills are required, including writing protocols, SOPs, data analysis, reports for clients, and peer-reviewed publications. This role also requires strong project management skills and thorough record-keeping in a GLP environment.
Relationships: Works closely with research team and Sr. Scientist in the completion of contract research and internal research programs. Meets regularly with clients to discuss progress and future work. Participate in weekly laboratory meetings.
Tasks:

• Design, plan, and execute experiments that are part of the company’s external contract research business. This includes writing and budgeting protocols for client sign-off.
• Take ownership of assigned tasks and work closely with external and internal team members to ensure that the appropriate resources are allocated to projects and that the tasks are completed on time and on budget.
• Required to participate in internal R&D programs as required. Process and organize the resulting data from all research.
• Apply and develop the results of research to work through a variety of applications, such as new products, processes, techniques or practices.
• Draw up research proposals to apply for grants and awards when required.
• Train and supervise students and laboratory technologists as required.
• Writing original research papers and technical reports based on findings for submission to specialist subject publications.
• Assists the team in general laboratory cleaning and upkeep.

Contract/Hours:
· This is a full-time contract (3-6 months) with the possibility to extend or transition to a permanent position. 40 hours per week Mon-Fri, 8am-4:30pm, with occasional scheduled work outside normal business hours.
