Job overview
The Primary Japanese Language Acquisition is responsible for the effective management and day to day running of a homeroom or specialist class in the primary school. This section is comprised of year levels ranging from age 2 to age 12, namely K-Year 5. The teachers’ key purpose is to develop the personal and social responsibility of students and to support their overall well-being.
The homeroom teacher is the first point of contact for students, specialist teachers and parents if there are questions or concerns regarding social, personal or academic issues. This position requires time to be given to dealing with student issues and providing an effective contribution to the development of the student. In this role, your immediate manager is the Head of Year and any student concerns should be addressed to him or her.
Duties and responsibilities

Retain confidentiality regarding information concerning
individual students, colleagues and the School as a whole where appropriate and as required.
Be prepared to accept and respond to any reasonable request or directive which your Class Teacher may make in time of emergency or need.
Professional Responsibilities
Understand the elements of the Learner Profile and their importance in lesson planning and delivery.
Assist in the management of classroom discipline through positive reinforcement.
Communicate informal assessments and observations to the class teacher as requested.
Participate in the classroom organisation to meet the needs of students, support curriculum delivery and aid independent learning and assist with the support of ESL and SEN students in the class.
Treat resources and equipment with care and due regard to the needs of the whole school.
Take responsibility for the immediate pastoral welfare and health and safety of the students in your class.
Carry out playground, lunch and after school supervision as assigned to you.
Support the class teacher with classroom displays, communication books, notices going home, photocopying and other such tasks as requested.
Communicate respectfully, positively and co-operatively with staff and parents.
Take part in School in-service training and actively seek to develop your own professional skills and competence
Commitment to reflection and improvement of personal practice
Participation in the school’s teacher evaluation programme
Participation in the school’s peer observation programme
Seeking opportunities to extend expertise and keep abreast of current ideas
Participation in in-service activities, external courses and conferences
Support and promote the school and the IB mission statements
Active involvement in the school as a whole and in its ongoing improvement

Maintain co-operative, supportive professional relationships with the entire school community
Take an active role in school improvement initiatives
Share expertise with colleagues
Attend and contribute to all required meetings
Perform break-time supervision as directed

Encourage parental interest and involvement in the school and support UPTA events
Know school policies and be able to answer everyday queries of parents
