Mechanical Commodity Manager

Position Summary
As a Commodity Manager for Belkin, you will be responsible for the creation and maintenance of a technology map and Approved Vendor List (AVL) with Supplier Orientation Chart (SOC) highlighting comparative strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) across portfolio or technology offerings.
The Commodity Manager will support all of Belkin’s Strategic Business Units for products and commodities within their assigned portfolio. This highly collaborative role works across functional teams, including Global Sourcing, Global and Regional Product Development, Product Management, Program Management, Engineering, Product Quality, JDM/ODM/OEM/CM partners. Extremely strong communication, partnering, and influencing skills are required, in addition to working knowledge of the NPI and manufacturing environment. Data gathering and ninja Excel skills will be key to success.
The Commodity Manager is considered a specialist and subject matter expert and leverages both technical and supply chain experience to succeed by gathering and acting on technology roadmaps and cost information from tech partners/suppliers, market, and peer internal Subject Matter Experts. This is a key role in estimating, correcting, and verifying product components’ costs, especially in the early or concept phase of the product development life cycle (PDLC) and NPI.
The Commodity Manager will strategically drive improvements within assigned direct material categories while ensuring the continuity of supply from sub-tier suppliers to manufacturing sites, identifying & negotiating for cost reductions, improving Belkin cash flow, deploying supplier risk strategies, supplier relationship management, negotiating agreements and more.
Essential Functions

Support the Belkin GSM team in meeting NPI Project cost targets for portfolio commodities or with assigned sub-tier suppliers.

Perform product and component should-cost analysis and negotiate with suppliers based on such analysis.

Maintain a Belkin AVL & SOC for key sub-tier processes and suppliers in the assigned portfolio, including audit and readiness status.

Anticipate and plan AVL evolutions to keep pace with Belkin product management plans and technology evolutions. Ensure senior management is aligned and supportive of plans.

Ensure that the assigned portfolio stays competitive from cost, quality, and delivery perspectives. Expertise in cost estimating and cost modeling is key.

Perform commodity supply market analysis including supply base optimization (total landed cost, quality, and delivery)

Lead negotiations, strategic sourcing, and change of supplier activities within the assigned portfolio.

Utilize tools and market indices to enable negotiations.

Drive supplier innovation offerings to Belkin.
Secondary Functions
-
Build relationships with sub-tier and technology suppliers. Identify where leverage or business consolidation opportunities exist so that the Belkin GSM / NPI team can consider them for project allocation.

Conduct supplier assessments and deploy qualification processes (supplier, material, or product) as needed.

Conduct business performance reviews with suppliers and senior management. Establish a regular review structure/cycle as needed.

Negotiate NDAs and contracts including MSA (Master Supply Agreement) and SOW (Statement of Work).

Perform financial analysis and interpret an assortment of financial reports.

Understand and follow company rules and regulations.

Perform all other duties as assigned and required.
Education & Experience
-
4 years education in Supply Chain, Business Administration or Engineering.

Advanced degree such as Master of Engineering or MBA would be a plus.

Minimum 10 years’ experience in a purchasing team of an international/multinational corporation.

Minimum of 5 years of experience in specifying mechanical or electrical components or as a component engineer.

Experience with should-cost tools and other methods of cost build-ups and analysis
-
Familiarity with consumer electronics is required. Including knowledge of cost drivers and impacts of manufacturing processes.

Experience managing technical commodities and suppliers.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
-
Fluent in English (verbal and written) and Mandarin. Excellent communication skills.

Ability to toggle between strategic and detail orientated thinking.

Familiar with key manufacturing processes and product costing fundamentals within the assigned portfolio.

Financial literacy and accounting practices, especially regarding cost savings calculations.

Strong problem solving and analytical skills.

Exceptional computer literacy including proficiency with Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
Location & Travel
-
The position is to be located at Belkin offices in Shenzhen (preferred) or Hong Kong
-
Frequent regional travel to Supplier locations in China & Vietnam (20 ~ 30%)
-
Overseas travel may be required (1 – 3 per year)
