Sr. Structure /Mechanical Design Engineer

Astera is a German hardware, software and manufacturing specialist. Since the mid-2000s,
Astera has been producing battery powered, remote controlled LED lights.
In 2007 Astera moved its factory from Germany to Shenzhen/China, the worldwide hub of
LED technology and electronic innovation. By now, this factory has been extended to more
than 5000 sqm and is run by an international team of specialists.
True to its roots, Astera only manufactures battery-powered lights and accessories.
Over the years the company kept adding features and new technologies to its lights.
A range of battery spotlights has been used to illuminate numerous world-famous
events.
In 2018, Astera noticed an increasing demand from the media industry for portable
lights that can be used to shoot movies, commercials, music videos etc and decided
to build a product dedicated for this market. Astera got in touch with gaffers
and cinematographers and with their help developed the award-winning Titan
Tube.
For the coming years, several unique products are under development. Astera

Job Description
We are looking for a Senior Structural/Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have over 10 years of experience in designing complex electronic product structures and will be responsible for leading the structural design from concept to completion. This role requires a strong understanding of mechanical design principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.
Job Responsibilities
Participate in project feasibility analysis and clarify requirements; understand design directions based on project needs and product certification standards to effectively improve new products.
Independently manage the transition from industrial design (ID) to the implementation of 3D structural models and details; identify issues and provide solutions while delivering high-quality designs within reasonable timelines.
Conduct DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) checks, including stress analysis, flow simulation, and thermal management, to proactively mitigate risks.
Communicate with project teams and suppliers regarding materials such as molds and machining; confirm manufacturing capabilities while continuously optimizing product designs from a cost-saving perspective.
Qualifications & Competences
Full-time college degree or above in Mechanical Manufacturing, Design, or related fields.
Proficient in Solid Works, Pro E, or similar software for structural design; familiar with mechanical principles and common machining tools as well as knowledge of new materials and technologies.
Over 10 years of experience in structural design for compact, complex electronic products with a solid foundation in product structure design.
Strong analytical skills with a keen insight into structural concepts; innovative design capabilities with a holistic view of products and cost considerations.
Familiarity with common product materials such as plastics, aluminum, stainless steel, zinc alloys, and silicone, along with their surface treatment processes.
Experience with mold structures (plastic injection molds, die-casting molds, stamping molds) and extensive knowledge of mold design and machining processes.
Preferred Skills
Strong project management and coordination skills; able to communicate effectively with internal teams and other departments.
Basic English proficiency; fluent speakers are preferred.
Soft Skills
Excellent problem-solving abilities with a proactive attitude towards challenges.
Strong sense of responsibility and initiative; passionate about design with a collaborative spirit.
Ability to work under pressure while managing multiple projects efficiently.
