Contract Type – Indefinite

There is no relocation or sponsorship support.

About the role:

The Global ER function provides professional and expert advice and support in the management of employee relations issues including the ER implications of change projects, redundancy, grievances, appeals, disciplinary matters and bullying and harassment.
The People function model is currently subject to review as part of our strategic response to the key challenges facing the organisation, including the need to remain sustainable in our spend, agile in our approach, and effective in the way we work.

The ER Case Managers play a key role in the successful management of our global ER casework agenda. Operating in line with our global polices, and local legislation, the ER Case Manager will be responsible for end-to-end case management for a range of cases identified to be either sensitive or complex and will also be required to support and advise informal resolution and undertake investigations as required in support of issues in any of the countries in which we operate.

Main Responsibilities

  • Working in partnership with investigators, decision managers, disciplinary hearing managers, subject matter experts, key stakeholders and employment lawyers, to manage complex and/or sensitive employee relations cases.
  • Working effectively as part of a wider global ER casework team.
  • Providing a level of rigour, assurance, and consistency of approach in the management and support of cases.
  • Ensuring all essential documentation related to cases is stored in a central archive and in accordance with the set of standards and protocols (naming conventions etc) established.
  • Managing cases effectively, considering legal implications, and escalating as necessary
  • Supporting and advising on informal resolution.
  • Undertaking investigations.
  • Driving timely resolution of all matters.
  • Coaching and developing line management capability in employee relations matters, with a strong focus on informal resolution.
  • Providing advice and clarification to the Advisory hubs on ER policies relating to disputes and dispute resolution.
  • Providing insights and learnings from cases managed.
  • A focus on continuous improvement.

Minimum/essential requirements

  • Experience of advising on and supporting the management a range of complex employee relations cases.
  • Ability to apply employee relations policies and interpret differing relevant employment legislation.
  • Experience of interpreting and applying employment law and legal advice
  • Proven experience of successful stakeholder management. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to challenge constructively and influence.
  • Experience of undertaking complex employee relations investigations and report writing. Ability to write and present well thought through information clearly and concisely.
  • Experience of working with and managing internal and external legal team relationships
  • Experience of informal resolution
  • Ability to demonstrate cultural sensitivity
  • Ability to plan workload, meet deadlines, and hold others to account
  • Ability to provide insight and analysis
  • Ability to deliver with rigour and pace
  • Ability to work with competing priorities and requirements

Desirable

  • Management of employee relations cases in a large, international organisation
  • Understanding and experience of applying the employment legal/regulatory framework in the UK

Language Requirements

The British Council systems and global processes operate in English. Written and verbal proficiency in English is required
