The Opportunity
This position works out of our Coyol – Alajuela location in the AVD Vascular Division. Abbott Vascular provides innovative, minimally invasive, and cost-effective products for treatment of vascular disease.

As the Business Relationship Manager, you’ll have the chance to provide technical leadership, mentoring and guidance (daily operation and strategic planning) for the Medical Devices IT organization supporting Abbott Medical Costa Rica. Responsible for the IT portfolio of the business unit, making sure the portfolio enhances organizational strategy through successful, consistent, and predictable delivery of programs, projects, and applications.

What You’ll Do

Manage IT projects across business unit and division wide when and where applicable. Participate in business projects based on IT expertise. Align with business unit management and global BRMs on the portfolio of programs, projects, and applications. Ensures that unit´s long-range plan is met and secures resources to meet the long-range needs of the area. Partner and collaborate with key IT staff of other Abbott divisions in order to support cross divisional business initiatives and explore IT synergies and efficiencies. Translates business strategy into IT Strategy. Build new proposals (initiatives including requirements definition, business impact and financials) and agreed on prioritization to build 3-5 years IT capabilities roadmaps.

Consults with business process owners and business unit management on IT tools and solutions. Recommend solutions assuring fit with BU direction, strategy, and priorities. Where needed, involves IT business consultants and external technology experts. Advises business unit(s) about similar strategies used by other areas of the organization. Influence and partner with business leaders (Director, Sr. Director level) to manage and align the unit´s IT portfolio. Build and maintain strategic relationships with key IT Vendors.

Promotes a Global Perspective. Constant awareness of evolving requirements in the business area(s) and influence the IT stakeholders and vendors in addressing these evolutions in the most efficient way. Understand the business of the BU and ensure that IT solutions meet the needs of the business. Understand the specific challenges and opportunities linked to the regulatory, legal, and economic situation of the business unit.

Cultivates internal and external network of resources to resolve problems or opportunities. Interacts with internal and external customers from DVP to individual contributor. Escalate concerns to leadership and proactively manage risks with owners to achieve results.

Required Qualifications

• B.S. in Computer Science or similar discipline.
• 5+ years of IT or business experience in large or midsized organizations
• Broad IT or business expertise in various disciplines like system development, including infrastructure.
• History of working independently, balancing both strategic and tactical priorities for the business, while creating a vision of excellence for a technical department.
• Additional experience in setting IT or business strategy and business IT alignment.
• Strong project management skills. Qualification in project management.
• Strong interdisciplinary, and excellent intercultural influence, and networking skills. Strong influence and negotiating skills.
• Experience with vendor management.
• Deep knowledge of all technologies used or to be used by the functional area.
• Experience leading teams - both with direct staff and indirect project teams.
• Excellent written, oral and multimedia communication skills to ensure personnel and senior management engagement and to influence decision making.
• Able to lead and collaborate with cross-site, cross-functional teams across different areas to manage outcomes of a technical project in a high production volume environment.
• Basic knowledge of financial planning, both capital and discretionary expense, budgeting and execution while monitoring a project performance and adjusting constraints to meet project goals.
• Advanced command of English.

Preferred Qualifications

• MBA is a plus.
• Experience in medical devices, health care, nutritional products, laboratory diagnostics, pharmaceutical, or similar industries (preferred).
• Experience in medical device manufacturing processes and clean room environments a plus.
