Principal Electrical Engineer, Supply Chain

The Principal Electrical Engineer, Supply Chain is an expert level technical resource for strategic or sustaining engineering projects and will perform his or her duties with minimal supervision. The position is responsible for providing technical leadership for supplier related changes and startups related to electrical/electronic components, assemblies, and systems. The Principal Electrical Engineer, Supply Chain may have direct reports and/or contractors reporting to him/her and will mentor junior level engineers.

Cooper Surgical is at the forefront of delivering innovative assisted reproductive technology and genomic solutions that enhance the work of ART professionals to the benefit of families. We currently offer over 600 clinically relevant medical devices to women's healthcare providers, including testing and treatment options. The Principal Electrical Engineer, Supply Chain serves as the lead electric/electronics technical resource on the Strategic Sourcing team, supporting engineering activities related to Cooper Surgical’s global supply chain. He/She interacts with all Cooper Surgical locations and departments as well as external suppliers worldwide.
Qualifications

- Electrical circuit design, fabrication, and testing proficiency with common electrical, electronic and electromechanical components and assemblies.
- Successfully completed numerous new product launches and product design changes to electrical/electromechanical products in the medical device field of moderate to high complexity.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of supplier controls, process validation, failure investigation techniques, root cause analysis, corrective/preventive action procedures, and protocol/report generation.
- Understanding of ISO 13485 requirements, medical device validations, and regulatory requirements
- Ability to work in a team/partnership environment
- Black Belt/Green Belt certification or Lean Six Sigma experience desired.
- Language fluency in English and Spanish
- Computer Skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, Power Point, PLM system, CAD, Altium, SPICE, Xilinx/ISE, Python, Silicone Expert, IHS)
- Electronics lab equipment working knowledge: Oscilloscopes, multimeters, signal generators
- Superb Oral and Written communication skills including presentation skills
- Hybrid work environment 1-2 days per week in the office at Cooper Surgical location in Costa Rica, with balance of time working from home or traveling
- Interacts with domestic and international suppliers frequently
- Travels frequently domestically and internationally as needed to support business requirements
- Occasionally lift up to 40 lbs
- Prolonged sitting in front of a computer
- 10+ years industry experience in electrical medical device and equipment manufacturing/engineering
- 5+ years experience in a supplier development engineer or supplier quality engineer capacity in the medical device industry
- 5+ years experience in Electronic Manufacturing Services strongly preferred.
- Bachelor's Degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or Electromechanical Engineering
Essential Functions & Accountabilities:
Travel: Up to 35% domestically and internationally.
- Leads the effort to proactively identify risk in the electrical/electronic supply chain and provides solutions to eliminate or significantly reduce risk while ensuring there are no gaps in supply for production.
- Transfoms the supply base through rationalization, re-sourcing, and risk mitigation activities by driving supplier development actions to reach compliance, risk management, cost, quality, delivery, and services targets.
- Partners with Category Managers to assess current supply base core competencies in the development of a long-term sourcing strategy of assigned categories.
- Develop and maintain thorough knowledge of technological developments and trends for guidance of commodity teams in advancements of design, quality, and manufacturing.
- Proactively reviews supplier capabilities, assess operational gaps to identify risks and takes a systematic action to develop a world class supply base.
- Accountable for Active Management of PCBA Platform as it pertains to Life Cycle, PCNs, EOL, industry constraints and other associated risk mitigation efforts. Recommend BOM updates, and identify alternate components as required.
- Supervises electrical supply chain contractors and direct reports as assigned.
- Actively develops and coaches’ suppliers on how to meet Cooper Surgical’s quality system requirements and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) requirements to successfully complete validations.
- Is a liaison between Supplier and Product Engineering on Strategic Sourcing projects designed to reduce supply risk and build a high quality supply base to support future growth.
- Partners with Supplier and Product Engineering to assure part to engineering specifications match, redline specifications and initiates engineering change orders as needed.
- Identify cost reduction opportunities in partnership with Category Managers, internal stakeholders and suppliers to meet year over year cost targets while maintaining quality.
- Has a supporting technical role in negotiating supply agreements, statements of works, and pricing for goods and/or services.
- Will develop a “should cost” model process for assessment of electrical/electronic purchased components.
- Engages with supplier on design of new tooling to conduct DFM and ensure Cooper Surgical’s expectations for tooling are met on NPD and legacy products as needed.
- Identify insourcing and outsourcing opportunities in partnership with Category Managers and OPS manufacturing strategy; supports technical component in the make/buy analysis.
- Active supporting role in Supplier Business Reviews.
- Accountable for Travel domestically and internationally upwards of 35%
- Perform additional responsibilities or assignments as directed by management.
