Thales in the Czech Republic employs over 400 people from 45 different nationalities. A total of 15 teams work on projects for government agencies, banking, mobile services and the Internet Of Things (Io T) technology. An Engineer eager to observe and understand how well their code fares in Production and how good a service is provided to customers; both internal and external. Someone analytical capable of connecting the dots in a complex situation, finding the problem, explaining its cause and proposing a solution. A generalist at heart with the mindset to look for improvements and the skills to turn their ideas into lean running code. Someone able to communicate and collaborate effectively with others across a distributed organization, comfortable working in a team and other teams to find a solution to a challenge at hand.

Typical activities

• You are a member of an agile (Scrum) team
  • working together day-to-day on User Stories
  • implementing Sprint increments and deploying all the way to Production environment
  • and delivering on your Sprint commitments
• You build and maintain tools for Reliability; focusing on Observability and the Automation of Operations
  • that can be used and reused across the solution ecosystem
  • by SREs, Developers and other Engineers in the organization
  • listening to their feedback and
  • turning the feedback into further improvement ideas
• You deal with technical incident escalations
  • analyzing problems, looking for patterns and the root-cause
  • explaining the root-cause clearly to a mixed audience
  • proposing solutions preventing incidents from recurring in the future
  • and taking part in a rotating 24/7 on-call schedule (L3)
• You propose, share and spread best practices for Reliability
  • prepare guidelines and templates
  • to address common Reliability needs of the solution in a uniform fashion

Requirements:

• University graduate in a technical/scientific discipline
• A proven track record in software engineering and in solving more complex technical problems
• Analytical mindset and problem solving attitude
• Experience with agile Software Development lifecycle (preferably Scrum)
• Comfortable working with programming code and familiar with code lifecycle management, tools and systems (terms like Gitflow, CI/CD, Gitlab, Codecommit, VSCode should ring a bell)
• Capable of writing code, testing it and deploying it through CI/CD (terms like C++, Java, Javascript / Node Js and Python should be familiar, experienced in at least one of them)
• Knowing your way around Cloud environments, their web-consoles and APIs (terms like AWS, GCP, Serverless, Microservice, Containerization, RBAC, REST should ring a bell)
• Automation (scripting) tooling and experience using it (terms like Ia C, Terraform, Ansible or similar)
• Well-organized, diligent in follow-up and used to collaboration tools (terms like JIRA, Confluence or similar)
• Fluent in English (both written and verbal) and comfortable presenting online to a mixed audience
• Able to operate effectively in teams and environments spanning different timezones, continents and cultures
