Title: Data and Economic Analysis Intern

Duration: 6 months (with the possibility of two months extension)
Contract Type: Internship
Earliest Hire Date: December 2024

Organizational context
The Joint Data Center is a collaboration between two multilateral institutions – the World Bank and UNHCR – joining efforts and expertise towards improving the quality and quantity of data for evidence-based policy decisions and responses to global forced displacement crises. The collaboration between the World Bank and the UNHCR builds on their on-going joint initiatives on forced displacement including analytical work and microdata collection.
The mission of the Center is to enhance the ability of stakeholders to make timely and evidence-informed decisions that can improve the lives of affected people. The Joint Data Center leverages partnerships and innovation in its focus on the collection, analysis, dissemination and use of primary microdata that enables policymaking, programming and research. This includes demographic and socioeconomic data, including on income, skills, education, health, and economic activity on refugees, internally displaced persons, stateless people, returnees, asylum seekers and host populations.

The position
The ideal candidate for this role is someone who understands data and statistics and has an interest in refugees and development. The person in this role will be responsible for providing analytical support across the JDC, working on a portfolio of data-related research and analytical projects of different sizes and natures. As part of a small team, they will need to be flexible in order to adapt to the varying needs of the unit.
Duties and responsibilities

  • Analyzing data evidence and preparing descriptive analytical summaries to support JDC activities, including proof-of-concept analysis and quality assurance.
  • Editing and proof-reading technical documents covering data and economics.
  • Contributing to literature reviews on the issue of forced displacement (focusing on quantitative analyses) and draft of topical summaries.
