Hydrodynamics Expert (Development)

We are looking for a person with a strong background in ship hydrodynamics to join our development team. In this role, you would focus on developing and testing new methods for analysis and prediction of ship motions, wave loads, resistance, powering, maneuvering and other hydrodynamics phenomena. The goal is to develop new products for ship performance assessment and simulation under real weather conditions. The candidate must be capable of gradually taking ownership of the existing code base and assisting in solving customer problems related to ship hydrodynamics.
To succeed in this role, a solid understanding of Fortran or other native programming languages is essential. Experience in managed languages and agile software development practices are seen as beneficial, as is experience with using NAPA and analyzing CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) results.
The ideal candidate would have extensive experience in ship hydrodynamics and motion analysis, a Doctorate or Master's degree in a relevant field, such as naval architecture, mathematics or physics, or a proven background in the maritime industry.
The role is permanent and full-time. Your home base is our office in Helsinki, Finland where you can work in a hybrid working model.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in development and implementation of analysis methods needed for ship performance simulation tools.
- Understanding the rules and regulations affecting ship design and operations and provide domain expertise to stakeholders and customers
- Follow the current trends in ship hydrodynamics research and implementing relevant new methods

What are we looking for?
- Formal educational degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or relevant field
- Practical experience in Ship Hydrodynamics
- Strong development skills in Fortran or other native language (C, C++)
- At least 5+ years relevant experience
- Experience in using NAPA
- Understanding agile software development methodologies
- Some experience of programming with C#
- Experience in CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics)
- Excellent collaboration skills
