At Valmet, our Services Business’ Research and Development organization is at the forefront of environmental offering development, serving a customer base in variety of segments including Paper, Board, Tissue, Pulp and Energy. Environmental insights are in growing interest of our customers over the lifecycle of their assets and operations as it is of ours too.
We are seeking a proactive and insightful Life Cycle Assessment Specialist to join our R&D team. In this role, you’ll establish best practices and methodology for LCA work and carry out analysis related to selected projects in our portfolio. As part of your work you will collaborate with a global network of experts, including R&D project teams, product teams, marketing, sales and end customers.

You’ll work closely with technical experts, product owners, project managers across Services Organization. You will report to the Head of Services Business Line R&D. The position is based in any major location in Finland (Tampere, Jyväskylä, Järvenpää ( Tikkurila Q1/2025 onwards ) ).
In your daily work you will…

Define and establish best practices for LCA work in Services Business.

Conduct lifecycle analysis for selected projects and offering.

Contribute to R&D initiatives and support development of sustainable solutions.

Deliver internal and customer training sessions on LCA practices.
To be successful in this position we are looking for:
-
A candidate with right balance of enthusiasm and eagerness to conduct environmental impact assessments on our products for our customers benefit.

You must enjoy work that requires focusing on details.
-
Ability to produce sustainability documentation in English.

Interpersonal skills are crucial in this role: you will be in frequent contact not only with internal stakeholders but external (customers, suppliers etc) as well.
To succeed in this role:
-
Degree in (M.Sc or B.Sc) sustainability related field (Environmental science, Corporate responsibility, or other similar field of study).

Familiar with large scale process industry through studies and/or previous work experience .

Basic knowledge of conducting Life cycle assessments.

Previous work experience on LCAs is an asset.

Experience of utilization of a LCA software (Simapro, Open LCA, Sphera (Ga Bi) etc.)

Knowledge of LCA related sustainability metrics (PEF, ISO14067, etc.)

Understanding the difference in requirements between footprint calculations and benefit calculations.

Previous experience on critical 3rd party reviews is an asset.

Knowledge of related legislative frameworks (Taxonomy, CSRD, Green Claims, ESPR etc.)
