We are now looking for Research Scientist / Senior Scientist to join our Transport emission control team!
As a Research scientist / Senior scientist at VTT, you can make an impact on our customers and society. VTT works closely together with industry, often in interdisciplinary research groups. VTT has excellent research infrastructure and your work is supported with experienced researchers, engineers, and technicians. We are also currently building a new Clean energy pilot platform in VTT Bioruukki, where we continue the experimental work in new laboratories 2026 onwards.
In this Research Scientist / Senior scientist position, you will have an essential role in transport emission control research at VTT. Our team's, Transport emission control, focus is to develop, study and find technical solutions to reduce climate emissions and air pollutants from on-road, non-road mobile machinery and marine sectors. New sustainable fuels and aftertreatment systems are in the focus. Our team also works with non-exhaust emissions in the on-road sector. You will support ongoing research projects with your skills and grow expertise in emission control. In your role, you can create impact with experimental research in collaboration projects with leading research groups and industry in the field.

Your responsibilities as Research Scientist / Senior Scientist:

The responsibilities are finalized based on selected candidate profile and experience, which may include:

• Engaging in wide range of research activities in applied research projects for transport emission control.
• Participating in the planning and execution of experimental research campaigns both in VTT own laboratories and field campaigns, based on experience also leading campaigns.
• Project manager for research projects.
• Analysing of measurement data and developing of data analysis methods.
• Participating actively in dissemination with journal publications and conference presentations.
• Engaging in discussions with potential customers and collaborating with research organizations as well as preparation of new projects.

Who we are looking for:

• You have a MSc. or Ph D. in Engineering, Physical Sciences, Chemistry, or a closely related field with strong connection to transport emission control.
• You have experience in one or several:
  • Dynamometer testing of vehicles, engines, brakes or tires.
  • Experimental measurement setups for exhaust emissions, vehicles, and engines.
  • Measurement of gaseous and aerosol particle emissions in exhaust emissions.
  • Brake and tyre wear emissions.
  • Internal combustion engine development for sustainable fuels.
  • Emission control R&D and industry experience in marine, non-road mobile machine or heavy-duty vehicle segments.
• Willingness to travel occasionally to customer or project locations, or conferences.
• You can conduct high quality experimental emission research, analyze measurement data, and report your results scientifically.
• Further modelling skills are an asset but not required.
• You have excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken.
