What you will do:
Corporate Banking France is one of the largest commercial banking businesses within HSBC Continental Europe with 3,500+ midmarket, large corporate, and international subsidiary clients. It has recently concluded a period of significant transformation in order to become France’s Leading International Corporate Bank.
The evolution of the business takes place against a backdrop of heightened geopolitical and economic uncertainty, with our clients facing many risks across their activities, supply chains and business operating models. Maintaining vigilance and pro-active dialogue with them is critical.
The current environment also offers growth opportunities for the business as we support our clients in their international development and transition to net zero.
In this context, the Deputy Head of Risk Oversight is of strategic importance, supporting the Head of Risk Oversight in the supervision of all financial and non-financial risks (‘NFR’) of Corporate Banking France.
In this role you will:
- Contribute to strategic projects intended to deliver the strategy of CMB France and embed the future state operating model in France; work closely with the Head of Wholesale COO Continental Europe and the Head of Wholesale Credit Risk Continental Europe to optimize and simplify credit processes;
- Support Head of Risk oversight in driving and embedding a pro-active credit and NFR risk management culture in Corporate Banking;
- Gain and apply skills and expertise required to understand, anticipate, and manage new emerging risks, and understand the new technologies of the energy transition;
- Support Head of Risk oversight to manage the risks of the Corporate Banking France portfolio, including: credit risk, transition risk, operational risks and other non-financial risks. Maintain the highest standards of risk management;
- Ensure compliance with all related policies and guidelines with effective risk mitigations and control; monitoring the relevant credit KPIs;
- Establish and maintain a close and effective working relationship with HBCE Credit & Risk teams to align our practices, risk appetite and process improvements; work closely with the Corporate Banking Head of Sustainability, Chief Commercial Officer, and coverage bankers to develop the transition risk analysis of our clients; cooperate efficiently with other risk Stewards and Wholesale COO;
- Support the Learning and development effort of the Risk Oversight team; share case studies and lessons learnt to elevate awareness of emerging risks to improve credit quality and NFR management;
- Closely cooperate with SCU in management of distressed debt and in SCU advisory situations.
- Lead a team of risk directors and managers and coordinate the Risk Oversight function of the bank.
- Support Head of Risk Oversight in governance and MI activities, representation in Governance fora and with relevant stakeholders.
- Support development and roll-out of critical credit and risk tools.
- As assigned by the Head of Risk Oversight, act as owner of Corporate Permanent Controls (CMA), SOX controls, CAC HBCE controls and France Corporate BCP as well as owner of the audit risks and associated remediation action plans.
- Confirmed risk & regulatory experience;
- Knowledge of HSBC’s business strategy, operations, structure and group procedures; ability to work effectively within a complex matrix based organization;
- A team player; supporting an open, inquisitive and inclusive team culture;
- Leadership skills; effective communication and interpersonal skills, able to influence stakeholders at all levels and work collaboratively in a complex, matrixed, organizational structure;
- Highly-motivated, diligent, collaborative, personable individual with autonomy and decision-making capacity; capacity to work in project and remediation mode with the group's support teams;

- A self-starter, the ability to operate with limited guidance and pro-actively address issues; and
- Fluent in English.
