Residential & Dining Enterprises (R&DE), the largest auxiliary organization at Stanford University, supports the academic mission of the University by providing high-quality services to students and other members of the university community. The department has an annual operating budget of over $350M, operates 24/7/365, and oversees a $3B asset portfolio comprising a 7 million sq. ft. physical plant across the campus. In autumn quarter of the 2021-22 academic year, R&DE will return to providing housing for over 13,000 students and dependents, serving meals at 17 dining halls, 12 retail locations, and operating athletic concessions and conference operations. Additionally, R&DE comprises 900 FTE staff in the following divisions: Student Housing Operations, Stanford Dining, Stanford Hospitality & Auxiliaries, Stanford Conferences, Maintenance Operations and Capital Projects, and a team of R&DE strategic business partners: Finance & Administration, Information Technology, Human Resources, and Strategic Communications.

ABOUT STANFORD DINING, HOSPITALITY & AUXILIARIES (SDHA):
R&DE Stanford Dining, Hospitality & Auxiliaries (SDHA), a division of Residential & Dining Enterprises, is a best-in-class dining and hospitality program serving over 25,000 meals a day by over 900+ staff in over 100+ locations, including 9 dining halls, 31 self-op row house dining, 7 co-op dining, 4 suite dining, 4 branded concepts, athletic dining, a kosher kitchen, late night dining at Lakeside, 8 cafes, 12 vendor partner programs, 1 commissary production kitchen, a pub, 3 markets, a sweet shop, 7 catering operations, Schwab Executive Dining, 5 athletic concession venues, and 2 teaching kitchens, SDHA also oversees the Stanford Food Institute, the Stanford Flavor Lab, the campus Be Well community gardens, the Stanford Food Pantry, and a staff training and development center.
Fully On-Site:
This role is designated as essential and requires incumbents to report to work onsite. Telecommuting is not available for this role.
JOB PURPOSE:
Under general supervision, perform basic technical work in a wide range of environmental, health, and safety disciplines.
CORE DUTIES:
- Identify, assess and monitor Food Safety risk factors, workplace and environmental hazards, including but not limited to, chemical, physical and biological. Recommend improvements to prevent foodborne illness and minimize hazard potential.
- Conduct Food and Workplace Safety inspections and investigations by compiling and analyzing data of potential hazards, unsafe conditions or environmental concerns. Share findings and recommendations to limit risk.
- Provide technical advice and interpretation of local, state, and federal regulations to achieve compliance with government and university policies.
- May develop and conduct employee and student training, education, and awareness of environmental, safety and health activities, and/or programs.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in arts/science in related allied/scientific field and one year experience in occupational safety and health, emergency response/management, environmental science, and/or allied/scientific field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Demonstrated ability to conduct risk assessments/evaluations and provide recommendations for risk mitigation or hazard identification.

Quantitative and qualitative data analysis skills.
-
Basic understanding of environmental, health, and safety principles and practices; government environmental, health, and safety requirements and university policies; and related knowledge of pertinent scientific fields to which this background can be applied.

Demonstrated organizational skills and detail orientation and ability to manage competing priorities.
-
Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with diverse audiences; ability explain technical concepts clearly and concisely.

Ability to maintain appropriate current knowledge of and interpret specific government agency requirements (statutes, regulations, licenses, and permits).
Certifications and Licenses:
CFSP, REHS preferred but not required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

Frequently stand, sit, and perform desk-based computer tasks.

Occasionally use a telephone, write by hand.

Rarely kneel, crawl, climb ladders, reach/work above shoulder, twist/bend/stoop/squat, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, write by hand, sort and file paperwork or parts, operate foot and/or hand controls, carry, push, and pull objects that weigh 40 pounds or more.

Ability to maintain a valid non-commercial California Driver’s license.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Must wear personal protective equipment as defined/required by job assignments.

May rarely be exposed to high voltage electricity, radiation or electromagnetic fields, lasers, noise > 80d B TWA, allergens/biohazards/chemicals /asbestos, or heavy metals.

May rarely work in confined spaces or at heights 10 feet.

The expected pay range for this position is $85k to $95k per annum .
