SMBC was established in 2001 following the merger of Sumitomo and Sakura banks. It has relationships with more than 100,000 companies in Japan as well as a strong and growing international network. The Bank offers a broad range of wholesale banking products including corporate, structured and trade finance, leveraged finance, loan market and treasury products.Through SMFG group companies it also provides a range of capital markets, securities and leasing products, thereby providing a strong portfolio of global financial services.
SMBC has a network of 19 offices across the EMEA region, with over 1,500 colleagues and temporary workers. SMFG as a whole in EMEA increases this total to more than 1,800. This headcount is expected to grow.
For a period of six (6) months, starting December 2025, or a soon as possible thereafter, we offer you a position in our team:
Who We Are - SMBC Corporate Debt Syndicate (EMEA)
  • As part of SMBC’s corporate debt syndicate team we price, manage and execute bond transactions for large, investment grade companies across the globe
  • The EUR Bond Syndicate team collaborates closely with both European, American and Asia-based teams to optimize bond issuance strategies, leveraging global market insights to meet the needs of diverse international issuers
  • Our main focus is on EUR and GBP, senior and hybrid bonds for investment grade companies
Your Internship at SMBC’s Corporate Debt Syndicate Team
  • You will be part of a dynamic team with a flat hierarchical structure who closely work across Europe
  • We will train you up to an analyst level and include you in all aspects of the workflow
  • You will assist with pricing and book-building for bond deals, analyzing market conditions
  • Conducting daily EUR and GBP bond market analysis and provide market and investor insights
  • Coordinating with internal teams for optimal distribution and allocation strategies
  • Supporting team members in Frankfurt, London and Paris for pitching our business to corporate clients
  • Essentially, we are looking for a student whom we can train-up with prospects to join in an entry-level position later
