Catalyst – Institute for Creative Arts and Technology is an international learning community, based at the iconic Funkhaus in the creative media metropolis of Berlin. Organised into a School of Music & Sound, School of Film & Visual Media, School of Acting and brand-new School of Creative Human Development, our diverse and ever-growing bachelor's and master’s degree programmes are based on the values and concepts of progressive, project-based education whilst complying with the rigorous requirements of a UK university qualification.

Aiming to become the international creative production and performance learning institution of choice, we encourage students to push their creative boundaries way beyond what they thought possible, at the same time engaging with their personal growth as a human being. Simply put, we aim to provide them with a set of skills that allows them to flourish whilst manifesting their interests and their unique greatness more powerfully in the wider world. With students from over 75 different countries, our creative community is a working environment that is international and multicultural.

What are we looking for?

A team member

Moving beyond outmoded ways of working together, striving toward a conscious people-centred culture, we operate in a distributed leadership model, which we can describe in more detail in-person. We are excited to invite team members who have the courage to bring more of their own interests, insights, and backgrounds to the mix.

Whilst the aims of the school are what bring us together, what keeps us together in our dynamic community is the idea that people can bring more of their authentic selves and not just their “professional” selves to the workplace.

A Marketing & Student Recruitment Lead

You will lead our Storytelling circle and our wider Student Recruitment circle, and will have the mission to increase our student intake and enhance our digital presence. Working within our distributed management structure you will have the flexibility to evolve workflows, prioritise your projects, and run campaigns to meet your circle’s objectives. In this role you will achieve an increased awareness of our brand both locally and globally, and work closely with our admissions team and collaboratively with our students, tutors, alumni and industry partners. At Catalyst, you will lead cost effective, audience-centric and targeted marketing campaigns to attract and retain new audiences, and ultimately contribute to the growth of our educational programmes and the impact our students have on the world.

///
Key accountabilities

  • Plan and oversee allocation of budgets across all circle activities
  • Devise and execute a comprehensive marketing strategy and plan annually, which aligns with our student recruitment targets and admissions timeline
  • Identify current and potential marketing opportunities with input from our educational team
  • Develop an in-depth understanding of the programme content and teaching methods to strengthen the marketing plan.
  • Work closely with Admissions to monitor and analyse recruitment numbers (applications, offers, enrolments) and the effectiveness of campaigns and workflows
  • Develop the brand identity and be the organisation’s first point of contact for implementation across all materials
  • Oversee the planning, execution and performance of our paid advertising activity, in close collaboration with our advertising agency
  • Oversee email marketing strategy, communications and processes in the CRM system, including automations, segmentation and conversion tracking
  • Plan, lead and oversee video production and photography, working with freelancers
  • Work with our digital specialist, developing the content and editorial strategy to meet KPIs, in line with the characteristics and USP’s of each learning programme
  • Lead analysis of campaign and channel performance, as well as competitor and market research/analysis as necessary, to inform marketing strategy
  • Oversee the maintenance and development of Catalyst’s digital assets (ie website, social media channels) - making sure everything is “on-brand” and in line with our objectives
  • Lead regular reviews and updates of website copy and imagery, including programme pages, seeking input from programme teams
  • Plan, organise and promote virtual and IRL touchpoints with prospective students (ie recruitment-focused events such as Virtual Taster Workshops)
  • Manage paid partnerships with education listings providers such as Keystone
  • Promote the diversity of our student body authentically in events and marketing practice

///
About you

You may have many or all of these qualities/experiences:

  • Extensive experience of managing marketing campaigns and delivery, ideally in an education or arts environment
  • Experience across a full range of marketing activity/channels, including paid and organic social media, search advertising, event marketing (eg. Virtual Open Days), email marketing and content marketing (eg. videos and blogs)
  • Budget management
  • Leadership know-how
  • Project management, from ideation to execution
  • Well developed strategic and conceptual muscles
  • Data-driven decision making: proven ability to balance analysis with gut feeling
  • Understanding of all stages of the marketing funnel
  • Managing partner/stakeholder relationships (ideally including advertising agencies)
  • Excellent communication skills and fluent English, including copywriting skills for different mediums and audiences
  • A flair for design and good attention to detail
  • Self-motivated
  • Experience implementing and/or using CRM systems (eg. Active Campaign) and website content management systems (eg. Prismic)
  • A passion for sound and visual art and their associated industries

///
What you can expect from us

We offer a working environment where learning and exchange are invited and encouraged. Within our vibrant creative community, we share a lively and flexible work environment. By design, the working environment invites fuller expression of yourself, taking initiative in shaping your own role(s), and opening up possibilities to develop yourself as an educator as well as a creative professional (if applicable).

Part of what animates our work together is trying to find ways of delivering a progressive and rigorous education to our students, whilst centering community and belonging. We therefore strongly encourage applications from those who would traditionally be excluded from an educational institution. For Catalyst, that means we envision a constellation of team members that is diverse in its gender, race, class, ability, age and sexual orientation backgrounds.
