Operations Manager (m/w/d)

Our client is one of the largest mobile phone recycling companies in the UK. Prior to Brexit, they operated across Europe, selling mobile devices to local customers in France, Germany, Belgium, Spain, and Italy. They are now looking to build up a new team in Europe and offer their trade-in services to customers within the German region, with later expansion to follow.

Key Responsibilities:

Process Management and Improvement: You will oversee and manage all day-to-day operations related to the procurement, refurbishment, quality control, and logistics of smartphones and will be ensuring that these processes are efficient, cost-effective, and aligned with the company’s goals.
Supply Chain Management: You will help to optimize the supply chain, from sourcing production materials to ensuring timely delivery to customers. Additionally, you will manage relationships with suppliers and logistics partners to maintain a steady flow of products and minimize disruptions.
Inventory Management: You will monitor, control, and track inventory to prevent stock loss and overstocking, as well as deploy inventory systems to keep audit traceability at the forefront of visibility.
Quality Control: You will implement and oversee rigorous quality control processes to ensure that all smartphones meet the company’s standards. This includes testing devices for functionality, verifying authenticity, and assessing cosmetic conditions. Additionally, you will manage the refurbishment process, ensuring that used smartphones are restored to a high standard, and will closely work with technicians to maintain consistency in quality and identify areas for process improvement.
Customer Returns Management: You will lead the development and management of processes for handling customer returns and exchanges, ensuring quick resolution and minimizing the impact on customer satisfaction.
Logistics and Distribution: You will oversee the logistics of shipping smartphones to customers, ensuring timely and accurate delivery. Additionally, you will manage relationships with courier services and explore opportunities to improve delivery times and reduce shipping costs.
Warehouse Management: You will oversee the operation of the warehouse, ensuring that products are stored securely and efficiently, and implement best practices for warehouse organization, safety, and inventory management.
Reverse Logistics: You will manage the reverse logistics process, including the return of defective products from customers, and ensure they are properly handled, refurbished, or disposed of according to company policy.
Compliance and Safety: You will ensure all operations comply with German regulations, including environmental laws, labor laws, and safety standards, and stay informed about changes in regulations that could impact operations.
Health and Safety: You will develop and enforce health and safety protocols in the workplace, particularly in the warehouse and refurbishment areas,, and conduct regular safety audits and training sessions to maintain a safe working environment.
Cost Management: You will manage the operations budget, controlling costs related to procurement, logistics, labor, and equipment; additionally, you will identify areas where cost savings can be achieved without compromising quality or efficiency.
Vendor Negotiation: You will negotiate with suppliers and service providers to secure favorable terms that reduce operational costs.
Operational Support to Customer Service: You will work closely with the customer service team to resolve operational issues that impact customers, such as delays in shipping or product quality concerns, and provide operational insights to improve the overall customer experience.
Feedback Implementation: You will gather feedback from customer service regarding operational issues and implement changes to address recurring problems.

Our client is looking for a person who will help them to build an efficient team in the new region, and the Operations Manager will have direct responsibility for the local team in Frankfurt. This role will include leading and managing a team of operations staff, including Warehouse Assistants, Quality Assurance Technicians, and Stock controllers. You will be responsible for providing them with a clear direction, setting performance targets, and monitoring progress.
Additionally, you will be involved in overseeing the training and development of operational staff, ensuring they have the skills and knowledge required to perform their roles effectively and implement continuous improvement programs to enhance team capabilities. Operations Manager will regularly review team performance, provide feedback, and implement corrective actions as needed to ensure operational targets are met.

Required Experience:

Proven experience in leading and managing operational teams.
In-depth knowledge of supply chain management, logistics, and inventory control, particularly in electronics or e-commerce.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to analyze data and implement data-driven improvements.
Effective problem-solving abilities for handling operational challenges.
High attention to detail, especially in quality control and process management.
Excellent communication skills for collaborating with internal teams, suppliers, and logistics partners.
Native German and fluent English language.
