Your responsibilities
50 % of standard work hours per week, the research associate will be expected primarily to teach and conduct research. The research associate will also have the opportunity to pursue further academic qualifications, in particular a doctoral dissertation. At least one-third of set working hours will be made available for the research associate’s own academic work.
25 % of standard work hours per week duties include academic services in the project named above. Research associates may also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications.
This position is part of the interdisciplinary DFG Research Unit “Big Structural Change” RU BISC (one third of the 75% is funded by RU BISC). The research unit investigates the changing acceptance of and compliance with societal core institutions (e.g., formal rules and social norms) in the face of climate change, globalization & technological change, and mass migration. As part of your dissertation, you will write three to four scientific papers in the field of political economy and/or organizational economics, with a focus on the topic of societal narratives about immigration, and with a methodological focus on economic experiments. You will write at least two experimental papers on narratives about migration, either in sole authorship or as a co-author, present them at conferences and submit them for publication in international peer-reviewed journals (Handelsblatt ranking A+ to C). One paper of your dissertation must be in sole authorship. You participate at the regular meetings and workshops of RU BISC, attend one summer school at least to further develop your methodological skills, and interact with the professor (primary advisor), with the other researchers in RU BISC, other doctoral students and postdocs in the team, and with junior and senior researchers in the department and faculty. This includes attending research seminars at the department. Funding is provided for conference travel and summer schools as well as submissions for publication. You will be involved in teaching by giving tutorials on lectures in B.Sc. Economics (e.g. Microeconomics I and II, Microeconomics for Business students) and other related tasks. Your teaching load is 2 LVS.
Your profile
A university degree in a relevant field.
You have the necessary education and motivation to design economic experiments and to empirically analyze experimental data with STATA and/or R. You have the necessary education to use and extend game-theoretic models to explain microeconomic issues in the fields of political economy and/or organizational economics. Ideally, you have good to very good grades in relevant master degree courses (e.g., Advanced Econometrics) and/or an empirical or experimental part in your master thesis. The master thesis should be in the field of economics.

You will be integrated into the team of a professorship that is productive in both applied microeconomic theory and experimental economics. Furthermore, you will be integrated into an interdisciplinary DFG research group consisting of professors and junior researchers in the field of microeconomics, political science, and sociology, who all have a focus on experimental and empirical methods to investigate institutional change. Your supervisor is the designated speaker of the research group and can, if required, support you beyond the dissertation on your career path in science.
