Optimus Energy already manages the largest portfolio of renewable energy sources in Greece ( >3,500 MW) in the short-term energy markets, enabling the successful integration of wind and solar energy into the market. In addition to this, we manage over 200 MW of flexible industrial loads and are actively aiming to optimize the largest portfolio of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) in the country.
The role:
The Flexibility Originator is responsible for identifying, sourcing, and negotiating flexible energy assets, such as industrial demand response and energy storage systems, to optimize their participation in energy markets and flexibility services. This role involves working closely with large industrial and commercial clients, and asset owners to develop tailored flexibility solutions, maximizing their operational and financial performance in the short-term energy markets. The successful candidate will drive business development and contribute to the growth of the company’s flexibility portfolio, including demand-side response and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
Key responsibilities:
Business Development:
Identify and engage with large energy users, commercial and industrial clients, and asset owners to secure new flexible energy assets (e.g., demand-side response, BESS).
Develop and manage relationships with key stakeholders, including asset owners and grid operator, to create strategic partnerships.
Origination & Negotiation:
Lead negotiations with potential clients to structure flexibility service agreements that optimize revenue from participation in energy and ancillary markets.
Identify opportunities for integrating flexibility services, such as peak shaving, demand response, and frequency regulation.
Market Analysis & Strategy:
Conduct detailed market analysis to identify trends, opportunities, and regulatory changes that impact the flexibility market.
Develop tailored proposals and business cases to present to clients, demonstrating the economic and operational benefits of flexibility services.
Collaboration & Integration:
Collaborate with internal teams (trading, risk management, engineering) to ensure the successful integration and optimization of flexible assets in short-term energy markets.
Reporting & Performance Monitoring:
Track and report on the performance of flexible assets, providing clients with insights into energy savings, market performance, and revenue streams.
Develop regular reports for senior management on business development progress, market conditions, and portfolio performance.
Requirements :
An above average university degree (ideally in engineering, natural sciences, or economics).
1-2 years experience is similar role
Solid Background in mathematics, statistics and time series analysis.
Practical coding experience (Python, Matlab) and MS Office.
Fluent in English and Greek
Ability to make accurate decisions under time pressure in a challenging environment.
This position is suitable for candidates with prior front-office experience in energy trading, dispatching and energy management.
