Laboratory Equipment Lead

The Role:
We’re seeking a proactive and well-organised Laboratory Equipment Lead to ensure the smooth running of our new, state-of-the-art QC and Analytical Services Laboratories, from the calibration and maintenance of a wide range of analytical equipment (e.g. HPLC, GC, FTIR, UV/VIS) to liaising with suppliers to support updates or repairs. Working closely with the wider team, you’ll gain a comprehensive understanding of all equipment and associated systems within the labs, supporting their full lifecycle – from procurement and commissioning to installation, calibration, maintenance and repair. You’ll work proactively to develop and oversee an effective work schedule for all equipment, and coordinate with the teams and relevant suppliers to ensure all activity is completed to deadline, minimising downtime. Where faults do arise, you’ll act as the first point of contact for the team to provide technical expertise, taking the lead on the troubleshooting, root cause diagnostics and reactive maintenance by liaising with our internal team and external suppliers to restore working order. To maintain the effective running of the department, you’ll support the QC team in inspections and audits, as required, train lab personnel on the maintenance of the lab equipment and lead on the creation and maintenance of the lab equipment related SOPs and training materials.
The Person:
· Experience of working in a busy QC laboratory with a good understanding of multiple lab equipment and their associated systems along with good knowledge of EU quality regulations and GMP/GDP guidelines.
· Knowledge of current statutory maintenance requirements and equipment qualification protocols (e.g. IQ, OQ, PQ).
· Strong practical analytical skills, with the ability to break down complex problems in a logical and structured manner.
· Excellent communication skills (in written and spoken English), able to liaise with all levels of authority and navigate cultural differences with ease.
· Strong organisation skills, able to manage multiple tasks to deadline and maintain a good eye for detail even in a fast-paced and changeable work environment.
· Good IT skills (e.g. Word, Excel and Power Point) with the ability to learn new systems quickly.
· Degree level qualification in a relevant Engineering or Life Science subject beneficial, but Laboratory experience also considered.
