About the role

This position is for a Technical Writer who is under minimal supervision and works more independently within the Technical Publications department. Each writer is assigned to one or more product platforms. As projects are determined within their platforms, the writer works with their project team, consisting of Engineering, Regulatory Compliance, Product Management, Technical Support, and Applications Engineering, to plan the publication deliverables that are affected. The writer is expected to manage their project plans, deliverables, and schedules. Each platform has a secondary writer assigned as the peer reviewer. All writers are involved in the decisions for style usage and department procedures.

Role Purpose:

• Researches, outlines, writes, and illustrates new or existing information products for their assigned documents according to the project plan.
• Creates information products including but not limited to :application, installation, programming, operation, troubleshooting, and service topics and manuals, installation sheets, online help systems, internet-ready information products and systems
• Assumes responsibility for managing the project schedule and reporting the project status for information products in which they are also the original author.

Key Responsibilities:

• Follows written department procedures to revise existing information products, create parts of new information products, or create new information products
• Researches, writes, illustrates, edits, and proofreads information products within the schedules provided the project teams
• Uses marketing or engineering specifications and other source material, as well as interviews with engineers and other internal sources to obtain needed information
• Advanced knowledge of electronics and computer programming concepts

• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Corel Draw, Adobe Acrobat, and Robo Help Office or equivalent tools
• Advanced writing skills demonstrated by the correct use of grammar, syntax, and punctuation, and by the organization of paragraphs, chapters, etc.
• Advanced interviewing skills as demonstrated by professional, effective information-gathering meetings with subject matter experts
• Any experience with life safety , fire safety products/domain would be an added asset.

Requirements

• Associate Degree in Technical Writing, Technical Communications, Engineering, or English with 6+ years of experience in Domain and/or product expertise

OR

• Bachelor Degree in Technical Writing, Technical Communications, Engineering, or English with 5+ years of experience in Domain and/or product expertise
