We rebuild tropical fisheries with coastal communities
Blue Ventures is a marine conservation organisation that puts people first. We support coastal fishers in remote and rural communities to rebuild fisheries and restore ocean life. Our work began two decades ago in Madagascar’s remote coastal communities and is growing globally.
Across a dozen countries, we’re partnering with traditional fishers and community organisations to design, scale, strengthen, and sustain fisheries management and conservation at the community level. We bring partners together in networks to advocate for reform and share tools and best practices to support fishing communities worldwide.
Summary Job Description
This pivotal role will position you as the Data Science Officer. In this role, you will harness data-driven strategies to propel Blue Ventures towards its mission of marine conservation and community empowerment. The successful candidate will leverage advanced data analytics to guide strategic decision-making and enhance the effectiveness of our conservation programmes.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement data analysis frameworks that underpin our strategic objectives.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate data science into conservation strategies.
• Create predictive models to evaluate ecological impact and resource management.
• Design and refine data pipelines and performance indicators for effective monitoring.
• Utilise statistical tools and techniques to extract insights from complex data sets.

Ideal Candidate Profile

• Proven experience in data science, analytics, or a related field.
• Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R.
• Ability to convey complex data insights to non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience with marine conservation or environmental data is advantageous.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
